hi 2009!

yes it does, i benchmark my shit to the point i know your argument is a fallacy.

german gouvernement have switched their system to opensource linux.

people arent lazy over there prepare to be overthrown by computer/AND/market aware people , and im not talking about me but the facts.

you can be a computer user for 60 years, and with that such of attitude never be aware of what the regents of the univerity of califonia rules , what compagny does under their publicity and their image.

thanks dynv , that helps clearing misconception of my arguments.

muertista , i dont think you are a dumbshit. i just think in the field, thoses happenings are out of your logical reasoning , either by experience, or the way you see life.

shure you can go consumable all the way , but expect this NOT to be a viable solution for you, your possible kids , neibours and future generations.

your biased by capitalism, and manipulated by th obvious , that was my statement, dont worry id tell your if i'd really think your batshit .

for me its , back to AROS, INFERNO, OpenBSD , BeOS (yup even if its a dead project) , Backtrack , Auditor , Slax , Scientific linux (CERN), DNA linux , Dyne:Bolic , ....

one machine i didnt tell you about alongside my current ones , are a 486 with 160gb drive. its a basic ftp , but yet i builded lots of other (yes p4s too with it) when all my machines are in used or whatever.

seven needs to be ignored , with the same energy as people ignored when COMPACT bought off the ALPHA chip that was the fastest thing around simply so their AMD & INTEL partner could have their way with the 64 chip. yet ALPHA was running in the terra scale since the 80s-90s. so from that rebound on the side , intel didnt get sued over them closing down a compagny over monopoly issue.

so why dont use a ultrasparc64 workstation, with sunos , or a free alternative, youll get the same thing that seven does, but better , having sources available to the poweruser that grows with its machine and make it grow.

i dunno man...
i'm on the band wagon for snow leopard personally...
it's romoured to save 6 gigs of space from leopard (currently 9 gigs)compared to windows 7's 16 gigs.
and the upgrade is only gunna cost $29 whereas windows 7 pro is $200 for just the upgrade and $119 to upgrade the home edition...
and honestly cutterhead...
nobody is gunna use any of those OS's until they get some software support.
which isn't happening too fast...
and as a designer i have no intention to switch to gimp and inkscape any time soon...
on that note... i hope windows 7 can handle adobe suites better than vista and xp.
that microsoft bull shit wont even let me create high res jpg's in illustrator bigger than 8.5x14" on a quad core intel with 4 gigs of ram without giving me out of memory errors...
While my core duo mac with 1 gig does 3x6' with ease.
microsoft CRAP!!
I'm feeling republican right now..

lol , mac didnt offer much support in the past , and took WAY too much time to implemement a way that people could get actual info out of a mac (witch by default doesnt do much , right ?) and moreso the low level drivers arent available to the user. so you cant binary dump , partition fix, or any forensics unless you start spitting cash to retreive your data (5k$ range) so mac is worse than microsoft if you ask me.... remember THEIR SCSI drives ? i do , and its not 100% proof against viruses. being prior or post Mac OSX

a lot of FREE and REUSABLE opensource music prog & os are out there , how can they succeed if the musician themselves are too lazy to lurk, take the dive and switch.

see i had many friends that pissed on unix & linux in the past , yet today they are quite happy to have a live linux version at hand ( livecd ) and learn or save their asses when their microshit vista/xp goes haywire.

vst are made by nobodies , a nice vst build kit is out there and is free. yet steinberg could remove 3rd party vst suport if they wanted , and make all you guys rage if they did.

yet the same things is happening concerning microsoft junk , and yall pull out. (exagerated) i dont get this..

Problem is, as much as I appreciate malleable platforms such as Linux, I spend my days racking my brains trying to fix everyone else's problems, the last thing I wanna do when I get home is racking my brains to operate a friggin' operating system.

And I'm not too keen on opening any software through godforsaken command lines unless I live in the world of Matrix and my OS is the Construct. I'll find other ways to feel like a hacker.

Call me lazy but the least steps I can take to access porn online, the best. Sit my ass down, click a shortcut to open Firefox, enter an address in the address bar, BOOM. Done.

I dunno how you do it Cutter but if you have to enter a 56 character command line string just to open a browser, hats off to you good sir. I have nowhere near the patience you do. :)

[ en.wikipedia.org ]

GNOME is the default desktop environment for several Linux distributions, most notably Debian, Fedora and Ubuntu.

By default it looks like the second screenshot but it's quite easy to have it look like the first ... There's all kind of control panels and GUIs that make it look a lot like "user friendly" OS.

I'm not partial to GNU/Linux as a desktop environnent, I'm in it for GPL and other free software licenses, but the ease of use of a desktop environnent is a great marketing tool.

One of the first applications I install on Windows is [ www.cygwin.com ] or I'll have to download a cumbersome limiting software that's basically a GUI shell for a *nix program ported to Windows.

I guess it boils down to reading versus getting ready made limited programs that will annoy you after a few weeks of use (shareware).
