I had an awesome idea for a bacon product once.. like cheeze-in-a-can, but bacon in a can! Just grind up bacon untill it's paste, then put it in a pressurized can, and you can instantly squeeze out bacon into your pan and make shapes that would fit whatever you're making!

I love bacon as much as the next meat-eater, but. eww.ww.ww.ww.

I disagree, simply on the basis of science, Jo. The human stomach IS well equipped for digesting meat. The fact that we don't have claws and fangs anymore is due to the human developing tools to replace those.

But yeah, I love raw food. I've never tasted anything better than raw beef :p

Alright, so I'm gonna sound like the biggest jerk ever, but I hadn't eaten red meat in a long while when I ordered that burger at 4am last night. Oh, and that Tonkinoise yesterday. Aside from that, it had been a while.

It IS simply a matter of balancing a diet. I'm with LukePeril. It's kinda hard to replace some of the nutrients in meat. But hey, share a few addresses for veggie stuff Jo? I don't really trust ALL of the stuff I find at the local Asian market :p

Of, and for the record, that Tonki was good. The burger was the worst idea ever.

Hmm.

So if eating meat is so bad, how come I'm not seeing more vegans in, say, Africa trying to convince lions they should start eating berries instead antilopes, educating wolves about the benefits of homegrown bio vegetables and having dart tournaments with Hannibal Lecter's face as a bullseye ?

So, humans ARE ANIMALS right ? If you can't convince most of Earth's biggest and fiercest predators of the animal kingdom from adopting a meatless diet, chances are you'll have a hard time with most human "beasts" as well.

Yeah yeah, don't bore me with "but lions are incapable of understanding the impact their actions are causing, us humans are much more evolved, etc..."

Sure, sure. But a few thousands o years ago, we too hunted in packs, grunted and ripped meat with our teeths. Heck, this behavior can sometimes be seen in restaurants so I sort of question how much we claim to have evolved. LOL !

She should.

I mean, so much education about the ways of the vegans need to be done ! She could go to China and share her tofu burger recipe with white tigers or even in Florida to speak to alligators about sharing the same waters with fish without resorting to barbaric feeding behaviors which eliminates the poor defenseless fishies.

Heck, you can even go local and show grizzly bears the err of their destructive ways through relaxation, appropriate plant picking techniques (watch out for Poison Ivy !) for feeding and tantric sex 'cause, you know, these bears are not actually violent, they're just misunderstood creatures. Since evil humans have forcibly driven them into deep in the woods, their isolation made them socially inept beasts when all they REALLY need is hugs. That's right. When was the last time you gave a great big bear hug ? See, that's what I'm talking about. Grizzly Adams and his bear Ben ? They got along just fine, they even shared the same bed ! Ben had hugs all the time. Most bears are alone in the woods, violent and moody from the dire lack of hugs and affection.

Someone should really do something about that. Maybe we should get her to take care of this :

I'm not anti-vegan! I just find that it's really easy to get vegans pissed off, so I tease.

The protein argument may be tenuous but the thing I really hated was the cost of organic and alternative ingredients. Let's not be trite here: nuts are expensive, so are goji berries, so is seitan, so are avocados most of the time. Especially organic. Maple syrup - expensive. Tempeh - expensive. Kombucha - expensive, and fucking gross honestly.

Then add to this a theoretical "labour cost" if you will. I work in restaurants for a living, as a mediocre and somewhat slow cook, but it's my "gagne-pain". To prepare alternative protein sources from scratch, you need a sterile (for tempeh especially) kitchen, lots of space to soak and sprout things, patience with all the ingredients involved, and the time to do everything. This is a labour cost that I for one could never afford. These days I do better, because I don't clock as many hours. But I honestly never have the interest in doing that much prep work after day after day of prep work. I eat coldcuts and cheese for dinner, like a European.

Where is that sort of convenience in a vegan diet? Typical answer: convenience is why the world is so lazy and irresponsible. True. But that's the way the system is set up. Speed, convenience, easy stuff fast. People take it for granted. But sometimes you need it, so you can relax.

I love hearing that there are people who are still able to be creative and make their own food from scratch, but you have to admit it's not an easy thing to do. More power to you and anyone else for doing so, but unless you're willing to sell what you've made to others you'll be hard pressed to convince them to drop convenience.

Like DK's album there: Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death.
I'm feeling mighty frisky right now..
