what brand? Make sure overlay mode is on? Didn't we switch to digital signal recently, rendering analog inputs useless?

go into your properties of your desktop , then advance then the you should have the ati tabs if thats your bran.
go to tuner tab. select ntsc then click ok and while your going back by doing so, make shure you have extend your destop if your outputing on the tv out . if not make shure your drivers are ok. but most of the time thats cause your on PAL and instead of being on NTSC.

overlay mode tends to be how most TV tuners output.. kinda like how VLC/most media players work; if you take a screenshot of your desktop while VLC is running, it won't capture what's playing, only a black box, because that's playing is being fed directly to the graphic card and not being proccesed the Windows graphic engien.
I know on ATI cards that happened to me a few times and drove me nuts; I'd run the software, get sound, but no image, and it was always that somehow the overlay mode was disabled.. So check through the driver settings for that!

dunno... i aint getting any sound either... seems like the tuner isnt getting any signal at all...
I think the problem might just be that my signal fucking sucks... its always really snowy when I watch the tely... maybe its blocking out channels that arn't nealy perfect... like how tv do that sometimes... they switch to a blue screen if the signal isnt good enough dunno... imma try deinstalling everyting, taking the card out, plugging it in back in and reinstalling the whole shabang, see if that'd do the trick...

good tip... imma try that and also try putting it in a different slot...
I think maybe the signal isnt strong enough though... the cable gets split before getting into my room... the other solution i was thinking about was to get one of those tuner boxes people had back in the day... you'd the cable into it, and then plug it to your tv with rca cables and youd have a remote to switch the channels... they used to make those for tvs that had no remote apparently those things are antiques and you cant find em nowhere... basically I could do the same thing if I had a vcr... which I dont Update » rawali wrote on Tue Jul 28, 2009 @ 11:45pm switched the card on another pci slot, still no go...
windows reconizzzzez the hardware and I get all the drivers in, but when it scans the frequencies to find the channel table it finds nooooooooooooothing what gives! bleh Update » rawali wrote on Wed Jul 29, 2009 @ 12:03am tried plugging in my nintendo thinking I'd at least get channel three and see the super mario/duck hunt startup, still it finds no channels... so it cant be weak signal...
I tried the composite input with my dvd player, switched to display compisite and still get nothing... ...I'm all out of ideas here... i dont understand what the problem is... the card itself maybe?

look for a jumper or a switch on your card , you probably toggled it to pal .

there is no switch or jumper on the card... you choose ntsc or pal when you setup the scan for channels...
and yes I chose ntsc... | |

if it worked before i would try it in an other windows install. to evade registry corruption.
tell me more about your card if you want me to know more about it..

Or you could just take your card, call it a witch, tape it to a wooden stake, read it a few bible verses and burn it with a few incantations.

unless he has a john deer powersupply that exploded on him , or that he made the computer go over temp . then i doupt its physically fried. but it could happen , it just very very unlikely.
dude rawali , its a combo card ? are you running your computer display from it but cant retreive the image from its input on the same card ? have you tried the s-video in ? try the other s-video in case you mistakenly swap them in the wrong ins/outs ? if you answered yes to i run my display from my same card. then your drivers are corrupted. could be even your source driver thats not good anymore , from decay whatever. the only way you can be shure is runnin it in a fresh os build. it could be fryed again , but thats 0.5 chance on over 9000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 Update » cutterhead wrote on Wed Jul 29, 2009 @ 2:39pm Tuner Features Hardware Features ◊ Invincible video quality supported by Silicon Tuner & Conexant CX23883 audio/video decoder ◊ Enable to perform excellent adjustable IF output ◊ Offers global video standards support, including NTSC-M/N, PAL-B/G/D/K/H/I ◊ Supports 10-bits video Analog to Digital converter ◊ Adaptive 2-D Comb Filter ◊ FM Radio Tuner built-in im curious , does the radio fm tuner works ? the more i think of this and the more i think your only runnin the basic driver set without the input. Update » cutterhead wrote on Wed Jul 29, 2009 @ 2:43pm other thing. you have no vcr and plainoldtvtuner as i hear. could it be your hooking your YELLOW rca cable from your gamebox to the COAXIAL IN thats also YELLOW and an rca ?
if you are know this , coaxial cable , is an rf (modulated signal) with A CARRIER. your gamebox is plain composite video WITHOUT A CARRIER. so try hooking a vcr before calling it a day, your cable should be , bnc like (videotron) cable to rc cable. striaght up. if you dont do this , the signal will be on all channel withou you being able to resonate with it.

card is not a combo its an msi tv@anywhere plus... its got an rf input, a rca video and sound input (not compostite... the connectors are red, white and yellow), an rca input that serves as the anteanna and a 1/8th inch jack for the remote sensor thingy...
I havnt tried the s-video input because... well because I dont have an s-video cable :/ but like I said, there is a rca video input... the radio tuner wont work either, no matter what channel, even with the antannae sky high... the antannae tv input wont work either.... it still says its not finding any channel... imma try different drivers Originally Posted By CUTTERHEAD

you can get an svideo to rca for 12$ at radio scrap.
but again rawali, im not shure your card is an rca input, i fear its an RF rca connector just like mine. it looks like the yellow rca at the back of videoplayers but this isnt the same thing its the same signal as the one that comes out the wall from the cable . its an rca for conveniance imo. i might be wrong , but gess why i bought the rca-to-svideo converter for. before the day i shoved in the walljack video in my combo card, i was SHURE it was a standard RCA. btw rawali i pulled your model line, and its a model line , give me the number of the model , tv@anywhere plus i found was a combo card , with radio input and all stated above. is it pci ? any irq conflicts at all from the screen before the os bootup ? you said you switched slots so i am thinking pci. but dude give us info if you need help. dont let me find out what you can tell me. is it a TUNER or a VIDEOPORT ?

by combo i thought you meant something like an all-in-wonder type deal (tuner+vid card) mine is just a tuner...
anyways... i fucked around, found other drivers now this bitch finds channels but wont display em... trying something with codecs and ill be back Update » rawali wrote on Wed Jul 29, 2009 @ 10:22pm installed a coded pack, updated video card drivers, updated directx...

Argh. This sounds like such a headache! For me the only real hangup was always making sure I had my S-Video cable handy (where is it now I ask myself?), but I do seem to remember how sketchy the TV rips were at times.
