You should try "If on a Winter's Night, a Traveler" by Italo Calvino. You'll be off to a drug-free mind trip for hundreds of pages :D

CATCHER IN THE RYE SUCK LAURENT . not cause some psycho killer read that before killing paul mc cartney or whatever is bound to be good.
its very long , boring , alomost like charly brown's toughts . or bliss's to think of it. screwhead touched some nice suggestion that arent boring and thrive you for more , neuromancer , count zero and monalisa overdrive is an awsome suggestion to get hook on and not wanting to kill yourself or others after you read it. also from william gibson is " burning chrome " a collection of his short stories , and this is where the movie johnny mnemonic got inspired from . ( copied that is ) also techno related but not in a fantastic or distopian : books from bruce sterling " the hacker crackdown " witch relates the pirate underground from the time scouts where in charge of the phone system switching to the late 90s. really good true historical report.

The Hacker Crackdown was an awesome book!
I don't really like much of his other stuff though.. I tried reading the colab he did with Gibson, The Difference Engien, and it's one of the few books I've never managed to finish reading (and if I've got nothing to do I'll go through a 600 page book in one day..)
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now.. |

Here's a suggestion : RTFM.
Seriously, the last few books I read were also William Gibson. All Tomorrow's Parties in fact which was boring as all Hell. A few books I bought out of pure boredom and turned out surprisingly inspired, detailed and, of all things, compelling was the Halo series (The Flood, First Strike, The Fall of Reach). Never did I dream books based of a video game could be this good. That doesn't mean I'll be running to the book store to get books on any other video game btw.

As far as fiction is concerned, try American Gods by Neil Gaiman or Fahrenheit 451 by Bradbury. 1984 by George Orwell but it's terribly depressing... Sci-Fi wise, Day of the Triffids and The Puppet Masters. I have had the chance to find first editions of both and they are without a doubt staples of the genre.
I'd say anything with Hunter S.Thompson but most people would assume I'm suggesting them because of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, which isn't the case. The Rum Diary is excellent; it's his Great Gatsby. Update » DCRn wrote on Mon Jul 13, 2009 @ 2:20pm Oh and the best fantasy/sci-fi series I've ever read are the Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny. Nothing will ever come close to compare to his genius.
It's like tackling fantasy AND quantum realities with a critical, grounded mind. It's beyond fucked up and I loved every page of it :)

the apology shows that you just can't trust democracy with anything really important and further that good wise people are always made to pay for their wisdom by jealous masses of cretins... all and all though, the four classic platonic works on socrates (apology, critto, Euthyphro, Meno) are all awesome, and there are even some really funny moments in a couple of them, way more fun to read than say aristotle, who in my opinion is boring as fuck...

If you are into fantasy but would like a change of pace I would suggest Warlock by Wilbur Smith. It's fantasy novel in an ancient egyptian setting, lots of political/religious intrigue if you're into that kind of stuff.
