Wich is a good thing, for a hell hole. well.. having lived in or near Hamilton almost my whole life, I can agree that it is indeed a world-class shithole (though I would be pretty careful about saying that downtown - lol) large areas of Hamilton are thoroughly dangerous and cracked out - especially at night. and the thing is, it's actually getting worse. the whole downtown is sketch now this really nice restaurant my friend used to DJ at closed down a couple years ago. they were a fixture downtown for years. the reason they finally had to close is because customers were getting too scared to venture downtown at night to go eat there. they were afraid they'd get mugged or beat up. yep... good ol' Steeltown. this city is ruff!! (note - people - some of whom I know - actually live next door to these steel mills! - it's like Bladerunner or something) 
to be fair though, there are really beautiful areas too. I always avoided the grimey areas of Hamilton like the plague, if I can help it. there are lots of really cool out of the way places near where I live that are really chill I went to Mcmaster University in the west end, which is really nice and upscale. there are also really nice old mansions at the foot of the escarpment. where we live, just outside of Hamilton, is really beautiful. one of the oldest - or maybe the oldest - settlement in Ontario. it's all historic buildings and protected woodlands with cliffs and waterfalls and good stuff like that these are pics of places literally just 5 minutes walk from my house... come to think of it I should get up at dawn and go for a hike through those woods. 
there is even Bald Eagles nesting right now in the marsh by Mcmaster U. so it ain't all bad =) - still though, the day I broke outta Hamilton and moved to Toronto was a very good day indeed |
