ever since i re-intalled windows, i can't seem to connect with the latest version of windows live messenger (i think it was 10. something or other)

it also didnt appear in my "add/remove program" list.
so i checked all the links and support sites, and followed all msn's steps to correcting this login error, but sure enough nothing worked.

i then went to [ olderversion.com ] or wtv its called, and downloaded an older verion (7.5, 8.0 beta etc) and each one i tried, it told me that there is already a newer version installed. so i just tried deleting the folder, and of course that didnt work...(there was no uninstall file tho, nor did it show up in the list)

so now i'm stuck using trillian, or the windows messeger that comes with xp...basically im behind a couple of years in technology...

anyone ever have this problem and know what to do?
or maybe there's another messenger that i don't know about like trillian, but better?

or maybe i just need to properly uninstall all the current versions files, and install an older one (but i dont know what other files are still existant in my windows)

any hints/tips/help for me?

Messenger is now part of a suite of programs called Live, and there's an all-in-one installer that lets you chose what parts of Live you want to install

[ download.live.com ]

should automaticaly detect what you've got installed and fix it.

Update » Choda_Bean wrote on Tue Apr 14, 2009 @ 10:51pm
yea, just tried it, and it says that messenger is already installed, and it doesn't give me the option to "fix" or "repair" or "uninstall" or "update" or anything like that...

it just notes what the program does...

i've been using trillian 3 point wtv for about 2 months now, fuck i think that last version of it hasn't been updated for years now, looks like the same one i used back in 2003...

it's easy on the ram and all, but i have 2 gigs running, so the ram issue really isn't relevant anymore on my machine lol...

anyways, thanks again, i can now spam people again with audio clips and custom emoticons!! woot woot!

nice one v2 . taking note of it , thou personnaly i wouldnt swtich to it by its apearance.

after a lot of messengers , iv noticed a few options lacking /or simply features & messages delayed from some of the alternatives compared to the raw one. oh dont get me wrong they all work , some has more spam than others, and some others arent transparent to msn/live/whatever communication between different app users.

since some homogeny is required at some point (unless u like explaining whats the words in bracket u just sent means) , but that in mind when ill have more time ill probably test this one, looks nice , plugins & automation, i would need to see it in the field before making a sound decision about it. ( pidgin spam on windows (not linux figure it out) got me to try anything at this point )

nyways thanks! cheers

it's garbage.

i even use ichat for my MSN, just found a jabber server somewhere, entered in the details, ond booyah....Of course I can't do file transfers, and half of the custom emoticons people send I don't get, but honestly I prefer it as just being a simple chat program.

Amen.

I mean, MSN is most certainly not another hyper-bloated Microsoft product. AT ALL.

3/4 of the features I never use anyway since most them eat my system resources like a rabid zombie on fresh brains.

linux --> aMSN ...it has it's misgivings, but i don't have much choice...but, still better than pidgen :p

works fine anyways. most of the options are there. it's a clone type thing, so the interface is very similar.

you should give a try at the 8.1 i posted, its the simpled down version, its all there , lightweight.

anyways ... at least OP seems to enjoy it...

remember that microsoft , when u start stoping services , and changing the TEMP environement to a custom one , gives you more room to computer "house cleaning" , that mostly ends up being a WMI / WDM remote change made by the ISP itself or spywares. thats more likely whats slowing you down than anything else.

poke your temp(S) directorieS , tell me how much files are in there (hidden & system files unlocked) and tell me how much files arent deletable . population in there is the problem (not all undeletable are problems : there sockets, but some of them are malicious) , the live suite or WMI / WDM remote exploits.

side note , how watched the HD repair thread i started , no feedback wtf ?
