v.2-1

I know every last one of us here just can't get enough of the whole Neoform-Cutterhead debacle so I thought I'd create a thread about something entirely different ( sorry about that ).

I've been meaning to get a website going for a while now but just kept procrastinating beyond belief. Now that I'm getting increasingly annoyed and uninterested by the shithole this board has become (yes, I can feel your collective shock and awe from here), I figure now's as good a time as any to waste my time being somewhat productive instead of sifting through a never ending stream of bashing or trolling threads.

I've attempted to look for this info on Google but can only find companies that keep showcasing themselves and don't look anywhere near reliable or professional.

I know a lot of you here have their own personal slice of web for personal, professional or blogging purposes so I thought I'd ask the last few knowledgeable folks on here for advise before this board officially becomes the I.O.T.A. ( International Online Trolling Academy ).

What would you recommend to me according to these factors :

1. I want to create a PERSONAL website for an online portfolio, blog and various other non-commercial-related things, one which will be a mix of regular HTML/CSS/javascript + embedded flash. Mostly Flash though.

2. I'm not looking for hosting with extensive coding capabilities. I'm very knowledgeable in HTML, some CSS, javascript and I'm looking into learning Flash real fast. No shopping carts, databases and such.

3. I want something RELIABLE and SOLID for a relatively low price. I'm not stupid, I know you need to pay more to GET more. I'm NOT looking for free EVERYTHING where your site might be down for 2 months and you have to harass the hosting company for 2 months to resolve this.

4. On that note, I'm preferably looking for hassle-free all-in-one packages, you know, the usual "web hosting, domain name and e-mail addresses" combos.

5. Even if it's a few bucks more, suggest it anyway. If that extra 50$ a year makes for a smoother brainless experience with said hosting company, I'm totally up for that.

I'd prefer you PM me on this since I'm expecting this thread to turn to shit in less than 5 replies but if you prefer not, I'll respect your choice to post here.

Any help will be greatly appreciated ! Thank you in advance ! :-D

with a single machine at home , straight on the modem
or behing a router in DMZ

you can host a website from your home , i suggest openbsd operating system , its the code is really clean and easy to figure out where are the config files when you compare against linux imo.

its apache ready. ssl too , you can even ssh from your box .

so the only thing left to pay is your name attribution at the registrar. or use a free dns.

i enjoy that a little more than hosting from a "yahoo" or "msn" page that could change any given day.

plus no adds !!
I'm feeling remf right now..
