love trip hop...the problem is that portishead & massive attack did it best, imo, so there isn't a whole lot of good trip hop besides that. but, there are some decent bands...
Goldfrapp is cool, Morcheeba is ok, there are some Leftfield tracks that are trip hop, as well as some The Orb tracks (like 'oxbow lakes')...and i really like 'backyard' by Clearzone. Check out U.N.K.L.E by all means. There are some groups like that that are considered 'acid jazz' or sample-based breaky shit like Dj Shadow or Dj Krush; they are trip-hopish, and great. The best thing to do w/ trip hop is pick up compilations and pick out the best tracks...and remember: Gus Gus is lame & overrated :p i also have some trip-core tracks i made, if you're interested ;) if i think of anything else, i'll post back... .. .

Anyways...Matt, you have to check out Neotropic , it's really really good, i'm sure you'd like it :) get your hands on the album 'Mr Brubakers Strawberry Alarm Clock' ...she started pretty young, and she kicks ass...
