You obviously know very little about your own history, but you are right about something, The first Nations are the biggest victims ever.

whoah whoah whoah Cutterhead.

the Dutch, Spanish, French and the British empires ALL tried to take as big a bite as they could of the Americas. it just so happens that the British came out on top.

at one point in the late 17th century (I think), the French sent out a military expedition deep into what is now the American interior. They planted lead plates in the ground here and there, symbolically claiming it for France. They also forbade some of the native leaders they encountered to conduct any buiness with anyone but the French *on pain of death*

I dont have time now but I will look it up later and direct you to a more detailed account.

I read extensively about the conquest of this land when I was a wee lad. very brutal and bloody history, full of all kinds of betrayals, injustices and atrocities committed against the First Nations.

I agree the French seemed to be somewhat more benign than the British in terms of relations with the First Nations... but they came to conquer - no question about it.

Peoples seem to forget that the First Nations are federal Jurisdiction. Every single act that put the first nation into reserves are Federal, Upper Canadian (English speaking British settlers)
The French Canadian and the Algonquian nations fought together against the British and the Americans.

The French didnt come to conquer, they came seeking India. When they failed at that, they started trading with the Algonquians (The Iroquoian where still pissed at Jacques Cartier).
It is only later that the Catholic church fucked everything up.

Yet one native canadian guy seems to have something against narrow-minded trust fund french hippies for what happened to the First Nations thus perpetrating the unending circle of distrust, hypocrisy and blame.

Just like french-canadians and the english armies trying to invade Quebec City : this shit was 400 years ago, can we fucking move on already ?

History is what it is : HISTORY. We should remember that time, not fight over something none of us has NEVER experienced, felt and lived.

British, Americans, and French ALL had alliances at one point or another with various tribes. and that is a fact.

do you know who Tecumseh is? despite living deep within American territory, he decided a British alliance made more sense., and fought alongside the British in the War of 1812.

these alliances are marriages of convenience - very fluid and subject to change.

much like alliances between the US army and Afghan warlords

All I'm saying is we should focus on shit happening NOW, not THEN.

The past is the past, filled with all sorts of stupid bad and retarded decisions, some good, some fought, others not and all in all we end up in the 21st Century fighting about the same stories the church warped and twisted a dozen times over.

I'd like to think Quebec would be filled with people striving to be ahead of everyone but it can't happen if we keep fighting over 400 years old spilled milk.

So please, let's focus more on that bullshit video game law instead of interpreting every goddam post as a personal attack on each and everyone's long deceased ancestors who are probably spinning in their graves like a top right now.

Merci de votre calisse de compréhension.

I was simply debating the erroneous notion that First Nations tribes allied themselves exclusively with the French. This was not the case at all.

read up on the history.. in whatever language you like =)
