Ok this is really getting out of hand. While I'm comfortable in English, some of my family isn't but it shouldn't be much of a problem as they were born in a UNILINGUAL FRENCH PROVINCE, not bilingual like some assholes went to Laval shopping center a few years back to protest that there was no English sign, so when my family members wait for the train in Montreal they can't get French service to a lot of the places. Usually I speak only French until I see they're really trying then switch to English but those idiots ask themselves if one spoke French an only one "spoke" it not knowing half the word that came out of his mouth, out of 4 employees, there was only one who barely passed his French class in high school. bravo ? That's horrific.

While I think it sucks for anglophones who have a hard time getting a job, it's totally unacceptable for francophone in a unilingual french province to find a job, I knew someone that went to a employment program and a lot of them were qualified and experiences but because they didn't know English they couldn't find a job.

What would Ontarians do if a region had the reversed problem, it was a francophone region in a unilingual English province and anglophone couldn't get proper English service ? I think the government would step in quite quickly and take over and fix this firing every public servant that didn't want to comply with the provincial laws and impose REAL fines driving them to bankruptcy if they were stubborn.

Yes those protective French laws are stupid but it's because they can only tackle that HUGE problem small steps at the time.
I'm feeling glace a la vanille right now..

bravo.

FYI, most of the people who play poker at the casino are french, but they all want the game to be in english.

wow , lotto quebec has one of the longest mafio rep in the province ,

i think your defence of " gamblers " and " goldnugget house " fall short to being stupid, or deft, one or the other.

if you go to japan , good luck " marking " all the signs with a language forein to them. btw it would be an insult , light up.

if anywhing , native language should be first ( and not that assimilted english sorry ) , french second , irish and dead last english. its how the story goes.
I'm feeling bofh right now..

I have no idea what your point is, because we're gambling, we don't have the right to want something in English? That has got to be the stupidest argument I've ever heard.

NO ONE WANTS IT IN FRENCH. Did you get that part? or should I repeat?

First off: WELCOME TO NORTH AMERICA. Whining that you can't get a job without speaking English is too fucking bad. It's the retarded french language laws that you support that are fucking you over. You'll get no sympathy from me or anyone else. You choose to speak french and only french, then be ready to not get a job.

Quebec does business with the rest of the world, if you can't speak English, you can't do business. Period.

French people have no interest in that, because that would "threaten our culture".

Most "Quebecois" or "French Canadians" are bilingual and many are trilingual. The French settlers have always been open to different cultures. Hence the metis.

By now, for every Quebec hater there has got to be at least a thousand America haters. I wounder why?

I was born here, I've always lived here. My mother is french.

I'm not sure what you're charging me with here. You're saying I'm not a Quebecer? I'm not part of Quebec? I'm not part of Quebec culture? If so, please tell me how.

neoform: just for my curiosity because i try to really understand your perspective because i do think you make sens in a lot of subjects usually:

during your formative year, did your mother talk to you in her native language, french, or you would all talk english which seems to be your father language? have you attend french speaking schools?

when i read your arguments you remember me someone who just discovered the libertarian theory and try to justify every layers of the cake with that one ideology.

also equality as sameness and equality as fair(as playing field) is 2 different concepts... with the first one probably much more applied in our western society. i think it's important to be conscious of these concepts when facing minorities questions.
I'm feeling hitched right now..

So, lemme get the jist of your argument:

Because I don't speak french, I am not a part of "Quebec Culture".

You clearly have a very narrow and close-minded perspective. What next, if I were black I can't consider myself a Quebecer?

during your formative year, did your mother talk to you in her native language, french, or you would all talk english which seems to be your father language? have you attend french speaking schools?

I almost look at Montreal and Quebec as separate provinces. It's amazing how much you can get by in the city without knowing French. I doubt that is going to change, since it is an international city.

I speak French and I love it :)

No one bothers me and I don't stay awake at night wondering if I'm part of Quebec culture or not

Why would you live in Quebec and not speak French? Seems kindof stupid

Valid point but in return, I dare ask : why would you live in Quebec, part of Canada, and not speak the language that is spoken by at least 85% of people in North America ?

I'm pretty sure the same reasons would apply. :/

Because I was born here and I prefer to speak English? What bothers me to no end.. is that for many people, that reason isn't good enough.

Guess what, anyone who says "you're in quebec, speak french".. fuck you. I'll speak any fucking language I want, no one is going to tell me what I can/can't do, this is a free country.
