I think mandatory service in Canada would be a great idea. Everyone does one or two manditory years after high school, like in Switzerland. It would help with nation building. It also tackles the obiesity problem by promoting active lifestyles. Cuz you can't have no fat soldiers.

man i was thinking the same after gamos post. Update » cutterhead wrote on Wed Mar 25, 2009 @ 1:38am there is no reason for this " MARTIAL LAW " attitude
its always dangerous , why not simply " live under martial law " 24/7 and wake up in the middle of the night for a bomb training , or binary weapong simulation that could have you burried under ground for years. gamos , or anybody, if your to post here, dont just drop a line cause you felt like it. Im not advocating matial law. And i dont think anyone should see service during there 1 year stint in the army after high school. I just think it would really make sense for Canada. I mean its a nation of 30 million people from a shit load of cultures. In addition, every province has its own culture. Sometimes it doesnt feel like much of a country.
Imagine if when you're 18, you spend a year with people from all over this country. You meet some great people, learn a little discipline, get some confidence by accomplishing something, get into shape. I fail to see the downside. Most people piss away their first year after high school anyways.

then COULD you leave the I WOULD out of the picture.
else I WOULD BE YOUR GOD. you see what i mean , your not there, some INTELLIGENT people know BEFORE walking up to a well that if they walk over they will fall, some other, have other reason , or are simply used over for being UNAWARE at the moment. pure guinea pigs shure , good encentives , man they should be there all the time, so YOUD DECIDE OUT OF YOUR OWN WILL. but this is going to be mandatory, they use cute words, but really, why now ? have u ask yourself why in 2008-2009 ? why not 10 years ago, why not 5 years ago, why ? ********************************************************************************************* because peoples lives on the line, is an economy, death pays, SO IS MUNITION TESTING. ********************************************************************************************* and they want our sober kids out there , sick hey , blood money. ********************************************************************************************* meanwhile , they could help you get your buisness up, a honest one, not an AIG thing, but no ********************************************************************************************* you have to go mine test the tanks because fucking russia invaded georgia/odessa last year and are afraid they will get too much chips factory as well as possible burried/hidden viral/binary weapons. christ , they got GPS layout with satellites turned not towards the sky but on us, they can track you footprints from the last 24hours and more , they got radio controlled nuclear unmanned aircraft. memory aimed, where they can move away from target, then press a button and the auto aim track back the old target, AND YOUR TELLING ME THEY STILL NEED HUMANS ON THE LINE ? this my friends. is ONLY for testing armor tolerance & field case test they arent game or allowed to conduct in the state : it would a crew resist the new armor , no , then the next model then , no ? again ?! okay next one then ? still 4 deads ... mmm .. anyways this is my take, next step they will put radio controlled dinamite collars on convicts , and if they try to run from the battle field . boom . i mean come on , if your to fight for freedom , you better be doing so all the way , right up to the enrollemnt procedure. Update » cutterhead wrote on Wed Mar 25, 2009 @ 3:52am biggest funding in the state goes to its military , i find it sick that trading a missile for food could feed poor families and get them to live normal lives. ( normal no excentirc )
but yet they are too cheap to even tradoff one of them , and let alone give out the help. they prefer the LOTO-SIX-FEET-BURRIER .

ALERT!!!! Quote [link to thomas.loc.gov] SEC. 6104. DUTIES. (a) General Purpose- The purpose of the Commission is to gather and analyze information in order to make recommendations to Congress to-- (1) improve the ability of individuals in the United States to serve others and, by doing so, to enhance our Nation and the global community; (2) train leaders in public service organizations to better utilize individuals committed to national service and volunteerism as they manage human and fiscal resources; (3) identify and offer solutions to the barriers that make it difficult for some individuals in the United States to volunteer or perform national service; and (4) build on the foundation of service and volunteer opportunities that are currently available. (b) Specific Topics- In carrying out its general purpose under subsection (a), the Commission shall address and analyze the following specific topics: (1) The level of understanding about the current Federal, State, and local volunteer programs and opportunities for service among individuals in the United States. (2) The issues that deter volunteerism and national service, particularly among young people, and how the identified issues can be overcome. (3) Whether there is an appropriate role for Federal, State, and local governments in overcoming the issues that deter volunteerism and national service and, if appropriate, how to expand the relationships and partnerships between different levels of government in promoting volunteerism and national service. (4) Whether existing databases are effective in matching community needs to would-be volunteers and service providers. (5) The effect on the Nation, on those who serve, and on the families of those who serve, if all individuals in the United States were expected to perform national service or were required to perform a certain amount of national service. (6) Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds. (7) The need for a public service academy, a 4-year institution that offers a federally funded undergraduate education with a focus on training future public sector leaders. (8) The means to develop awareness of national service and volunteer opportunities at a young age by creating, expanding, and promoting service options for elementary and secondary school students, through service learning or other means, and by raising awareness of existing incentives. (9) The effectiveness of establishing a training program on college campuses to recruit and educate college students for national service. (10) The effect on United States diplomacy and foreign policy interests of expanding service opportunities abroad, such as the Peace Corps, and the degree of need and capacity abroad for an expansion. (11) The constraints that service providers, nonprofit organizations, and State and local agencies face in utilizing federally funded volunteer programs, and how these constraints can be overcome. (12) Whether current Federal volunteer programs are suited to address the special skills and needs of senior volunteers, and if not, how these programs can be improved such that the Federal Government can effectively promote service among the `baby boomer' generation. (c) Methodology- (1) PUBLIC HEARINGS- The Commission shall conduct public hearings in various locations around the United States. (2) REGULAR AND FREQUENT CONSULTATION- The Commission shall regularly and frequently consult with an advisory panel of Members of Congress appointed for such purpose by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the majority leader of the Senate. =================================================================================================== source 3 =================================================================================================== source 4 =================================================================================================== SO STOP QUESTIONNING MY INTEGRITY , THIS IS SERIOUS , WHEN YOU DEFREEZE FROM WHATEVER YOUR ON RIGHT NOW AND REALISE HOW SERIOUS THIS IS AND START LOOKING THINGS UP FOR YOURSELF YOU WILL I HOPE JOIN THE RIGHT PARTY , BECAUSE YOUR MAKING A FOOL OF YOURSELF. OK OK OK, TL;DR!
Obligatory Service already exists in Germany, where at 18 you either join the army or do community service of some sort. This is paid however, so this is generally a point in the average German's life where they start to do social work that actually does a lot of good. Even the military isn't so bad, because Germany kind of doesn't get involved in war these days. Well, not as publicly anymore. Seems at some point in history something happened to give German soldiers a bad rap. Wish I could remember what.
