lol, Host

you don't need proof, it would just be very very impractical for plants to feel pain. they probably have damage receptors, so they know to heal themselves etc, but it's not the same as pain.

it would be as if cutting your hair would hurt...

Plants: they get us high.
I'm feeling you up right now..

I read somewhere that grass takes on a sour taste when a cow starts munching on it. That would be why cows eat a patch and move to a farther part of the pasture. Not only would grass/hay somehow feel, but it also communicates.

hmmm...

well, those are survival processes, defensive reactions...

just 'cause grass doesn't want to be eaten, doesn't mean it feels anything... :)

How does grass know when to deploy its defense mechanism? Seeing as they don't have any means of perception.
Then how do they alert the others?

Maybe there is stuff we still don't know about plants.
I'm feeling love right now..

This is exactly the case. This is something we know. I'm sure there is still more to know, though.

It is different, hair is dead cells while a plant is alive.

It's being decomposed by bacteria. It's what happens when we are tasting our food. The bacteria in our mouth is quickly decomposing it. Sometimes the different stages of decomposition give different flavors.. so we can have a series of pleasant (or unpleasant) flavors from one food instead of just one :)

hm I actually watched this doc once (a long time ago)... there wasthis giraffe eating leaves (OR WAS IT GRASS< artuehsgius) and all the leaves on the tree/surrounding grass patches would start producing this mild poison since they felt 'danger'.. apparently animals supposed to limit their grass/leave intake to avoid actually getting sick from it.
something along those lines. then again I may be full of shit 'cause this was some years ago, so.. i don't know. Can anyone confirm any of this..?

lulz jokes.

DrGonzo: I guess a "visi-vegan" doesn't apply to me because it definitely hasn't been socially advantageous. I remember when I went vegan, in Calgary, and almost nobody else was. It was pretty weird. I didn't tell most of my friends because I didn't want everything to get messed up. I still don't like bringing up the issue much. Here.. well.. it was brought up. :(
Update » Vegan wrote on Tue Feb 17, 2009 @ 10:56pm
anyways back on topic! I find plant biology really interesting. I'm also wondering how they differ from the solitary decomposers (fungi). Does anyone here know a lot about it?
