Solvent, born Jason Amm in Zimbabwe, and currently residing in Toronto, Canada, has been releasing his unique brand of analogue-synthesizer-pop music since 1997. Best known for his releases on Morr Music (2001's Solvent City) and Ghostly International (2004's Apples & Synthesizers, 2005's Elevators & Oscillators), Solvent is also co-founder of the obscure, yet influential electro(nica) label, Suction Records. Solvent has created his own unique version of electro: too elegant and sincere for the electroclash set, too complex and contemporary to sound like it was recorded in 1981, and too seeped in the time-honored traditions of melody, songwriting and hands-on synthesis to be lost in the overcrowded world of laptop techno. Solvent is widely regarded in the underground electronica community as being at the forefront of electro-pop's return to form. Although Solvent has always had a strong affinity with pop music, his music has also garnered play and attention from techno/dance DJs, with tracks licensed to several high-profile DJ Mix CDs, including Sven Vath's "Sound of the 5th Season", Dr.Lektroluv's "Lektroluv 5", and Death in Vegas' "FabricLive 23". Solvent has also been commissioned to remix several well-known artists, including Soft Cell (his all-time favorite band!), Alter Ego, and ADULT.. Having toured live extensively in Europe and North America since 2004, Solvent has shared the stage with Matthew Dear, MSTRKRFT, Junior Boys, ADULT., Ectomorph, Bola, Legowelt, and many others. Solvent will be touring throughout late-2007, opening for VNV Nation in September/October, and then with Freezepop in November. To accompany the tours, and to commemorate Solvent’s 10-year anniversary, Ghostly will be releasing a special 2-cd ‘best-of’ compilation, titled “Demonstration Tape (1997-2007)”. Solvent is currently busy working on new material; his 5th full-length is scheduled for release on Ghostly in 2008. This event isn't about Solvent bro, it's about the FM RADIO GODS whom, made the final's and won the competition.
The FM RADIO GODS recently joined forces with Akarien Management and have been producing together now for about 3 years. Their recent label, Attitude Records, is an up-and-coming label and should be huge by next summer. BIO : FM Radio Gods is producer/DJ/musician trio Andrew Hamilton, Ali and Tao-Nhan Nguyen. The Montreal-natives have come a long way since their debut in 2006 earning a reputation as a dynamic live act with an energetic production style. Their unique take on modern electronica is the result of their blending musical backgrounds. Involving everything from minimal house and glitchy electro, to trance and techno, FM’s sound is fresh, stylish and tailored to those who love to dance. Throughout 2006, the evolution of their live performance defined them as true heavy weight producers. From festival to club and back again, FM gained a solid reputation as masters of their craft and by 2007, their combined talents gave birth to a wave a releases on such labels as Echoes, Iboga, Coldgroove and Spaceport . It did not take long for original tracks like “Freeflow” to climb past the top 50 on Beatport’s progressive house network. With an undeniable desire for complete artistic freedom, and 2007 coming to a close, FM pulled together and kicked off Attitude Recordings. The first EP “Bite the Dust” set the labels tone by combining one dose club-appeal, and one dose intelligent listening. “We really want Attitude to cross and merge genres” Andrew explains. “We love creating heavy floor smashers but we need to be able to experiment freely without this as a precondition.” In the past year, FM has released on Tribal Vision, Blue Tunes, Iboga and of course, Attitude Recordings. Stay tuned. [ www.myspace.com ] You can also Catch them at the After Party happening at Parking, Thursday !!! | |
