How To Not Wire Speakers Like An Idiot

i alwas get into this argument about putting 2 4ohm speaker in parallel makes 2 ohm circuit and blows the amp. this is to shut them up.
[ www.colomar.com ] if you want to make 8 ohm speakers out of 8ohms speakers, you need four of em ; 2 in series 2 times in parallel.

lol really you have no idea how manytime i got an argument on this, haven't you ? Update » cutterhead wrote on Mon Nov 3, 2008 @ 3:39am and drawing this crap in a bar to some sound guy of coloured smarties isnt tha obvious / waste of time / will ruin the gear whatever you try =] Update » cutterhead wrote on Mon Nov 3, 2008 @ 3:42am ie : remember that splitter for walkman ?
bad drops the ohmic value by half, but since headphones are normally 16+ ohm, its kinda pointless, but you pair an big pair of 8 ohm and you get 4 youll lose the amp in a month on strenuous usage Update » cutterhead wrote on Mon Nov 3, 2008 @ 3:44am you wont damage it rite away because of overhead permissibility but on a longrun, or on heavy use ill make a nice bend on the polarised clad in one chip

yea basic shit, but tell me how many people you know will just rigg two speakers in parallel thinking
it doesnt do shit. I have seen so many bars that had 8 ohm speaker rig in parallel on both plug of the stereo, and the amp was 8 ohm by the oms law they were drivin 4 ohm load instead of the minimum amp alowed, witch in turn gave me underpayed job to fix an idiot's that didnt know the obvious.

I lost count of how many, you should of seen the amount of fried car amps i've replaced in one summer. Imagine trying to explain dual voice coils =p ...not to mention the difference between resistance and impedance ("no, a 4 ohm resistor wont fix your impedance issues")

=8] i feel good now knowing "the truth is out there" ha-ha
i can see the arguments and coworkers issues on that topic in a car performance shop. especially on the dual-voice speakers... soem of these folks dont even change the values, or mod the computer in the car after f' up with the fuel air ratios... so a sound system is even worse. are you a tech/repair man no-compy? or was it just a summer job ? Update » cutterhead wrote on Wed Nov 5, 2008 @ 9:58pm at lease you made money, or gotten free amps , got home and changed the outputs..

USA-1300, if im not mistaken. It's an old one, It's perfectly happy in 8ohm stereo, but in 4 stereo it surges through the channels every 30 seconds or so.

ill dig the plans. with your explaination thou it sounds like a cap, but it must be a diode or transistor, since it only leaks at 4 ohm... its definetely this output stage unless its a shifting circuit amp. (ie on switch the input get halved on the channel... )
that could be easyli fix, if your good at soldering, open it up and look for the burned bed. i bet ill be aparent . Update » cutterhead wrote on Thu Nov 6, 2008 @ 5:12pm then test nearby components. do you have a diode tester ?

No, but i could just try with the continuity tester on my multimeter. You're probably right though, its an old amp so componants should be relatively easy to isolate and remove/replace.

continuity can always work, one side should not conduct and the other should
if you know how to test a transistor with the diode knowlege then you should be all set on this prob. withou getting the model of the trans , 2times 2 pins should conduct, in reverse they shouldnt. if it conduct from all side its prob shorted, but i had issues with that survival trick not being that accurate, you could get a complete tester's solution in can tire, they have lil component testr/multimeter tester under 25$... but they are "relative" not rms, but i did without for almost 10 years. its the day you want to calibrate an oscilloscope and want proper error margin you get a fluke 189 or something. its a shame im not downtown anymore, i would have droped to your place and have a look at it. but really the burn spot should show. or some cold solder, anyways it should be brown a lil on the board. Update » cutterhead wrote on Thu Nov 6, 2008 @ 5:57pm yea i just remembered. since its not an "in circuit component tester" you have to unsolder the part you think is defect. a lil inverstment on an multimeter that does that is an intelligent choice.

i haven browsed for your manual yet sorry, but its comming :D Update » cutterhead wrote on Sun Nov 9, 2008 @ 5:45am [ fileshare.eshop.bg ]
here it should link properly to your amps nervous system. you need help repairing it , just ask me , i looked at it and its a type i like to repair. push pull mirror type with loop injection, exactly like my peavey, i dunno if its truly a class "a" you got there but looks like so. my speciality. plus i got the scope for the waveform analysis.
