That's my problem with Harper right there. He doesn't seem to do anything. He doesn't seem to stand up to the american gvernment at all. I remember when the liberals were in power we used to hear about all this drama between the U.S and Canadian government and within the Canadian government itself. Now we don't hear much news at all. No news isn't necessarily good news. I read in the gazette when that hurricane hit the U.S that(from a quote of an oil market analyst) the price of gas went up by 70% more in Canada then in the U.S and that it didn't make any sense to him. I'm not saying this is Harper's fault cause I don't know but you'd think that he would at least DO SOMETHING to save us from such financial injustice. He even refused to talk to the media for a long time. Now he's talking to the media cause it's election time. The media(as evil as it may be) is still the people's only way of getting news of their government and as a prime minister I don't think he should so much as have the right to shut himself off from it. Part of the job is talking to the media, if he can't handle it I don't think he has any business as prime minister. Don't forget this government has also made it legal to own unregistered long guns. Many people thought getting rid of the long gun registry meant making them illegal but in fact it only means you're allowed to own a long gun without registering it(I assume you still need a hunting license but still). A lot of people in Montreal were really pissed because he passed this law AFTER the Dawson shooting.. while people were compaigning for tougher gun laws not more lax gun laws. Either the wording of the media or the government itself tried to make it look like they were doing the opposite of what they were. They pretend to be all for public safety yet they make guns more legal. They also made massive budget cuts to many aid programs. Environmental agencies saw massive budget cuts. My sister works for Ontario nature reserves and the cuts had a big effect on them. They also made budget cuts to agencies that help immigrants(how american is that?). He also had planned to outlaw federal spending in provicial jurisdictions though I'm not sure what happened with that. The fact he wants to do any of those things really outlines his priorities as prime minister. Don't get sucked in by empty campaign promises.. when the conservatives cut our taxes they reduce our social services by even more and in the end they're still making more money. "Following the $14 billion surplus last year, the federal government collected $7.7 billion more in taxes than it spent in just the first four months of the current fiscal year, which means another unexpectedly large budget surplus." "In 2006, the Tories announced $1 billion in cuts to social programs on the same day they revealed they had amassed a $13 billion surplus the previous fiscal year." [ www.thestar.com ] He insults me as a Canadian. I want a prime minister that cares about our welfare firstly and secondly one that's willing to fight when it's time to.

Secondly GODISDEAD, I think people who cancel their votes are actually people a whole fucking lot brighter than those who just don't go at all. And have theirs stolen. So before calling names, maybe you should use your brains and logic, and think that maybe not everyone has enough time, comprehension and interest in politics.
