Most hippies I knew kept saying " I'm trying to change the world through education " and I would reply " dude, this is a fucking psy rave, I wasn't expecting to be back in school of the sudden. You sound like a door to door vacuum salesman ". And why is it always about EDUCATION ? Why the burning need to educate people about your lifestyle ? Fuck, as of late, how many fucking websites are dedicated to vegganism, going green and such ? If this subject REALLY interests me, I'll go consult them. It's called fucking Google. Now, I'm all up for a hippy convo WHEN IT'S IN CONTEXT but with them, EVERYTHING is about them and how they deal through the hardships of life through recycling, salvia or anything else they can't stop talking about. I remember one party at the lofts I used to live at previously where I was talking to a white dreadlocked and bearded guy with a rastafarian wool hat and every question was about his "ways". Here's an actual example : Him : "So what do you do ?" Me : "Oh I work. Telecommonication company. 5 letters, starts with T. No, not Bell" Him : "Oh them. Oh I couldn't work for such a company. Do they have a battery recycling program ? Did you know that 45% of trash in landfills isn't recyclable ? I would never use their products or encourage them, I have 5 recycling bins in my..." Me : "Yeah, erm so what do you do ?" Him : "Me ? Oh me, I'm an observer. I study. I spend every waking moment documenting my life and those of the ones I love. I have learned sooooo much about people." Me : "Welfare ?" Him : "Yes but I'll have my dream career soon. I'm trying hard to become a Cirque Du Soleil acrobat". Me : "Wow. Great. Excuse me". See the me vs him discussing personal info ratio here ? 15% to 85%. Why ? I can't relate to spending days on end smoking my welfare money away noting down my roommates activities and doing backflips for a living. And even if I tried finding things to discuss, I'm going to be treated to a wonderful guilt trip about any product I purchase, use or any activity based on anything I own or anyone I know. See, I like active conversations, where people found common things to discuss, some opinions are given, some good, some bad, but at least it's not so one-sided. That's why I can't be friends with hippies. I don't want to generalize, and I know I'm doing it anyway, but all hippies I knew throughout my existence were like this to various degrees. |
