| Hi I am getting videotron internet high speed on friday. Um i am a moron when it comes to computers , but is there anything i need to do to do or buy for the computer? Or is the guy gonna hook up completely? |

| you need a "network card" if your computer is younger than 5 years old your mostly probably be ok, the guys will install the modem but he wont touch your computer, but chances are he can tell you what to do. |

| They give you a cd. you have to instal it yourself.
don't loose it (like I did) because you will probably need to re-instal your internet for no apparent reason because you suck at computer...

| just bought the computer a bit used last year...I would say it is about 2-3 years old...

| i love hearing people say I had to re-install my internet....There is nothing on that disk that you inherently need for high speed internet access. YOu have a network card, you have windows, you have highspeed coming through the modem, there is no such thing as installing the internet |

| wtv cd you get from videotron is unimportant. If you have a router, then it's drivers will need to be installed if they aren't already. Videotron will register the first mac address it senses after the modem (your comp if its direct, or your router if you have one). That's about all there is to it. If ever later on you decide to use a router, you'd have to call videotron and ask them to reset your modem so it registers the new mac address.
Long answer short, no, you dont need to do anything. |

As soon as your service is active, all you have to do (unless you run a prehistoric OS) is plug the modem to your network card, power on modem and BAM, should be okay. if not reset modem (disconnect + reconnect power supply)
Gotta make shure all is set as automatic (dns servers, IP adress) and that there's NO PROXIES...
if anything, just pv me, I'll swing by and fix it.
The CD they give you is crap, it's mostly USB drivers for the modems. WHO would want a USB connection when there's network cards (like so much faster) anyways? |

I know what the inrternet is...I just don't know how everyting is set up and all that stuff yet again not technical when it come to this stuff...There are alot of peeps like me...But hopefully after friday i will know more as the weeks and months go on... |
