well.. yeah 160 minutes... but once you start mixing, at some point, your 160 minutes turns into 60 minutes of mix... and if the tracks you chose dont have the right vibe for the night you dont have the possibility to switch things around and adapt to your crowd...
I'm feeling dope right now..

well if he is preparing 2 cds of music for that particular set then I don't see the issue, he would still have 160 minutes of music to choose from to put into a 60 minute set, so that leaves 100 minutes of leeway.
Figure 2 cds full of tunes is the equivalent of 40 vinyls give or take.

2 cds can potentially equal = 160 minutes of music, 4 cds can potentially equal = 320 minutes, or 5 hours or so.

if each cd is a mix cd, that you burnt specifically for a gig, with different artists etc... then whats so boring about that?

that's if you mix like a metrosexual !! but i do agree.. i've done a set before with 2 CD's and it was far from boring !!
I'm feeling like a terrorist right now..

true.... i dunno i guess i must be the one who is insecure about not having a maximum amount of selection on hand at all times... my switch to vinyl has taught me that my insecurity can be quite painful though... for my back that is yeeesh

It is mine and i keep it that way...I choose to keep it to myself instead of looking like a retard by writting it down incorrectly or u don't understand what i am saying...Why must u know? because i know on this site for speaking your mind or haveing your own opinion doesn't mean very much or i will get insulted so i keep it to myself...

Have a nice day :)

Why bother stating your opinion in a incomprehensive manner and get your panties all twisted when people ask for a clarification.

What do you mean by boring is all I am asking. What aspect are you saying is boring, I don't understand your point.
If you are not willing to "discuss" on a "discsussion board" well then you are best to go back to lurking, and never post again, this way no one will ask you to clarify your opinions.

If a dj is mixing good music well, how is it boring?

rofl...

It is possible Lynn to play a sick set outta 2 cds... compiling before hand and having perticular selector.... bah, there is no reason to get hung up over the method, I am a purist at heart, I love vinyl, but I long ago dropped the whole "only real dj's do it with 12inches", its 2008, it doesnt matter what you use, it just matters what you do(barring ofcourse ipod wanabes).

That being said, if you pre-program sets and burn them in advance, you'd be seriously surprised what little physical material you actually need... for top-40 gigs, I often make mp3 master cds, 4 of those can hold the top40 charts for the past 2-4 years... this is the advantage in using new digital technology...

Ufot-technology+imagination=sky is the limit

i beleive that....

i am not just a vinylist i like cd's too...Just for me there isn't alot of work involved when u do your sets on 2 cd's that is all..I understand the point i do but just haveing 1 cd here and the other there and just forwarding and backing up all nite to play a set is boring to me. I would rather see a dj work it a bit more that that. Now i am not saying that the dj is playing has bad music or anything when he or she does that, i am a visual person when i am on the floor. I like to see the dj work it a bit more than just standing there, he or she may be dancing around a bit cool but they r in one position all nite in front of the cdj's... that is the boring part for me ... if it makes any sence!

If a dj uses more than 2 cd's hence a book and goes back and forth all nite and starts a sweat and runs over here to get this one or that then that is what i like to see call me old fashioned but it makes sence to me!!! that is my 2 cents....

When i do play cd's it will be a whole bunch of em...and i will work it till i drop...
I'm feeling depressed right now..

i see your point, I understand (now) what you are trying to say.
But still taking 1 cd out and replacing it with another still has no effect on how well the dj beat matches the songs that are on those cd's

Fair enough, thanks for clarifying.

Based on your description though, I could come in put on a pre-mixed cd, and then just keep rifling through my record bag, pretend to cue up a record, play with the mixer a bit, and put on a show and sweat for the crowd for 60 minutes
....Sure it may be visually stimulating, but er um, music... its an auditory thang

A'int no hate Lyzzy, s'all luv up in here!

i hear u yes auditory and visual for some peeps they see the dj go go go and then they go go go...But not alot though...i see the dj haveing fun i have fun, but that is me. Important notice yes the dj is the most important theing in the club yes? So it is very important that he or she be good no matter what..beat matching and good music and a smiling face and lovin it is the key n'est pas?

Being a dj myself that is what i beleive...I love what i do i wouldn't change it for aything in the world....I dance, sweat, and play good music and work it all the time when i play..It is the love of the music i know u can agree on that!!!

tiesto used to be bad ass when we used to kick it. We always threw down and partied like rockstars!

oh and p.s.

i understand rawali and LYNZYN
s points about how lazy looking, or how unprepaired you might be, using only 2 cds to get through an entire set.
but that doesnt mean that its not possible, or it cant work, or it cant be fun. i know ALL about lugging a heavy record bag out, and bringing too many records out. When i didnt live in MTL, i used to work 6 days a week. After work on saturdays, i would go home, fill a record bag to the brim, run down to the train station, get out at bonaventure (university and rene levesque) and haul ass up to the plateau, or wherever the jam session/party/rave might have been.

not entirely sure of what my point is here, but, at the end of the day, overall performance, out-weighs record bags.

how you choose to do it, is up to you.

i dunno what the point of this discussion is...
but tiesto has forgotten one rule...

BROS BEFORE HOS MAN!!!

but btw...
whats whats wrong with burning 2 c.d.'s for a set and stuffing them in a book with 20 other c.d.'s and hoppin' in the metro to your gig?

what is it...

2 C.D.'S OR NO C.D.'S???

who fuckin' cares as long as you show up on time and get a blow job at the end of the night?
I'm feeling republican right now..

i know how it is to carry a record bag still do it and i have a full time job as well i know.......I can't afford to buy cdj's right now, but saving to buy em! Thank god i know how to use em...I have the net now so i am gonna become a cd junkie..But i am still gonna buy vinyl from time to time.

I love what i do and it shows when i mix..And whoever knows me knows that, whoever heard me knows that i give my all everytime i play...I just do what i have to see dancing smiling faces...I have been working very hard and we will see where it brings me!

Never give up the music inside u
it is your most beautiful gift
to those blessed to see u
preform to the music
in all our souls...
