So true, even though I was pretty sure that I couldnt use serato with my laptop, I bought it anyways figuring that the drivers would be released sooner than later... a couple of months later, Im starting to feel like a chump with a kickass laptop which will remain pretty useless for at least most of the rest of this year... I had the same problem. I wanted to produce in 64 bit using the 4gigs of ram I installed. Anyways, neither cubase or my soundcard had (Or still have) any working drivers for it. I'd have to upgrade to cubase 4, and probably buy a new soundcard.
Mind you I found the 64 bit version of xp ALOT faster.

I installed Age of Empires 3 and it ran beautifully... I don't think you'd have a problem with 64 bit and games. I'm pretty sure they have good 64 bit direct x drivers now. Don't quote me on that though i'm not muhc of a gamer at all anymore. Fucking life takes up all my gaming time.

I don't understand why they couldn't make 1 version of windows with 32-bit and 64-bit support, OS X leopard is like that.

yeah but it's still 1 version, you don't have to choose 32-bit or 64-bit and have to use the appropriate drivers like in windows.

Windows XP and Vista are both built on top of an OS dating back to the 80s that was never as well designed as BSD.

That would be like asking original Xbox video game companies to recode all their games to make them Xbox 360 compatible. Is that out of laziness or it's just too time and cost consuming ? I have some very useful old freeware that has been discontinued but has been coded for Windows 95 and work perfectly well on XP but doesn't work on Vista. Again, like Kishmay said, how fucking hard is it to make it backwards compatible ? Even Sony can do it properly for the PS3, a console for crying out loud.

You can do a lot with virtual machines now, to the point where Microsoft could feasibly rework their OS and use a virtual machine to run older software. I'm running OS X and I can run windows in vmware fusion and run any windows software I want (except complex 3d stuff), and I can use dosbox to run ancient dos software from 20 years ago. I don't see why Microsoft can't integrate thia type of technology into their OS and slim down the actual OS. They seem to be going in this direction from what I have read.
