They had Kool Herc last year, the Godfather of Breakbeat djing

And there's always a lot of cool breakdancing, good djs and cool art being made

Its also a good event to bring everyone together, unity wise

I don't see why you need to rag on it...it is free afterall

Yeah...
i gotta agree with bliss on this one.
i'll admit the quality of the productions has gone down from the days of the giant K.W.O.T.A. and Alpha rats walls...
but c'mon... how can you live in a city that annually hosts one of the largest graffiti conventions in the world and take it for granted?
for real yo?
just pour a mickey into a slush puppy and enjoy sunday afternoon in the alley like the rest of us.

I hear you,

But I think the problem is you're getting older,

You've seen it all before and hence might be a bit jaded,

But what you forget is that there's always a newer generation,

And I think its important to preserve and present the REAL elements of HIP HOP to them

That is breaking, mcing and painting,

All very positive and creative things when used properly,

And all severely lacking in this bogus mainstream "gangster" culture thats poisoning the kids
today

I like UP, it's just that the writers are just fuckin toys, and nothing is cohesive anymore,
it's just 8 by 8 spots of pure wackness. It's not like back in the day when crews
would get together and actually go over a production idea together, now everyone wants to be
a writer and do their own thing, so the spots get cut down in size and taking away from the
whole beauty of the art. It's too structured now, not enough space to breathe either.
And the tents drown one another out, it's annoying.

Shit ain't what it used to be

Sounds like he's more known in US... I didn't know him either before seeing him on New Year's, but he was awesome! People really enjoyed his set. :) He's SO friendly, not pretentious at all and not so expensive. If you want to have more infos about him, just check his myspace page:

Exactly. I'm in total agreement with you, Alex. At least there's still that old wall with Bacon, and Esprit's pieces which can act as a reminder of what it used to be.

Although, I can still appreciate some of the piece by some of the more talented writers.

For example:

Either way, even though I can't go see any of the shows or the painting during the day, I'm definitely going to hop into a Taxi after work, and hit up the after shows.

Bro look at how this one on top overlaps the other one, there's NOTHING cohesive about that shit man, like why couldn't they work something out together instead of doing two completely different things?
It's all in good fun but like, the thrill of seeing good Art is gone. I'm not expecting to see any either so wtv it's all good, I'll make a stop through, have a laugh with bliss and keep walking, cause I fucking hate downtown anyways, it's wack and PLAYED OUT!

Plus I don't drink, I only smoke herb, and it doesn't seem that they allow that on the grounds anymore. Yeh I'm a fuckin jaded shmuck, shoot me.

:p
