It's hard to find good horror these days I find.. In pretty much all forms of movies. It's all too focused on gore and being "extreme".. What ever happened to actually writing good story? |

| Coolness: 686280 | 1408 was really cool, and I really liked the end of that.. The only thing that bothered me was the computer effects.. It's what I bitch about in 99% of all "modern" movies.. Most of the time, when they use computers for effects, it comes off looking too much like they used computers.. things don't look real enough, they look plastic and totally not like they're there..
That's what I liked about the House on Haunted Hill (up untill the end *groan*) and the 13 Ghosts remake (again, right up untill the end where they use CG for the stupid machine).. The ghosts/effects were all REAL; people, fake blood, fire.. shit, when's the last time we saw ACTUAL FIRE in a movie? |

It's been a while since I saw it, but I remember it was pretty creepy, though I think (not too certain, like I said it was a while ago) that it suffers from "bad CG" syndrome at the end.. But it was definitley a good watch, I'm actually downloading it again now 'cause I'd forgotten about it. |

Give me your all-time top 5... that i should download.. creepy/scary mostly and without any zombies (I'm not really a fan of those.). no common "classics" either. (like, no "the shining" or "the exorcist" and what not) *clears some space on her harddrive* :D |

| Coolness: 686280 | no internet access at my place for a week or so (stupid shitty ISP, but we're switching to videotron, now I'm at my dad's place for a day or two), but...
Hmm, an all-time top 5 would be mostly zombies :P But without going into zombie movies.. hmm.. for sure, the first place is Hellraiser 1+2 (I consider them to be one movie.. Great story, amazing atmosphere.. It's not really scary by most people's definition, but it's really dark, weird and creepy) The Thing is another great one.. It's the movie that inspired Reservoire Dogs.. It's another one, it's more about tension and atmosphere than what most people think of for horror these days, but IMO it's one of the 'must-see" horror movies.. (It's the 2nd horror movie I ever saw, and I only made it about 15-20 minutes in when I was 12-13 years old, and I got nightmares for a long time after) hmm, this list is actually a lot harder to come up with than I thought it would be (and I've got about 130gigs of horror movies on my hard drive and another 60-70 as DivX/Xvid on dvds..) The Howling V: The Rebirth - it's more of a stand-alone movie than one that really follows in a serries, but it's my favorite werewolf movie.. It's kindof like The Thing, in that there's people trapped somewhere, they can't get out or get help, and one of them is not what everyone thinks they are.. This one was up on Demonoid recently, so it should still be up and seeded. I'll think of more later on, I'm actually having a tough time thinking of good ones (especially since I'm not at my place and don't have my DVDs/hard drive accesible to browse through) |
