No, actually, i'm agreeing in my own way, it's you that was missing that. In the past 300 years? how bout a holocaust? But I'm not trying to compare the suffering of ancestors here, that would be childish. As I said, i was agreeing with him.

Add 100 years to do and yeah. Rape, diseases, assimilation, land theft, forced alcoholism, murders, etc :D How long did it take for natives to have their own parcels of land and reparation? It's still disputed today.

It's not a matter of what happened. It's a matter of time. I'm not saying that afro-americans had it easy! I'm saying they were not the only ones to have it hard :D. That should be obvious to most people.

Of course, it doesn't justify being racist. I can't say, "I can use this and that word because my people suffered to". I just don't personally get preferential treatment because of what happened to my ancestors. And anyone in my position, using the race card will be seen as "weak", to me. That includes my own mother.
I'm feeling fretful right now..

Hence my selective memory comment. The separatists complain about being 'oppressed' here, but when were the tribes they all but stamped out heard? I don't think tax exemption quite covers it..

ya but you still don't face systemic racism because of that shit, when a black person walks into a job interview, they are BLACK, nothing they can do can change that, when you walk into a job interview, no offense, but from your profile pic you look pretty white, in a certain sense you can walk away from your cultural and ethnic identity much easier than sombody who literlally wears it on their skin...
I'm feeling surly right now..

If I came off as trying to be overly righteous, I'm sorry, but you guys hit a nerve a tad to close to home for me, for reasons I won't get into here.

Okay, first of all I'm not downplaying the Holocaust, or the fact that the Natives had their land stolen or the fact that a genocide took place in Rwanda that killed 900 000 civilians (look it up).

I never said ANYTHING to the effect and drawing THAT type of conclusion from what I have written is a pretty far stretch. I realize I am saying this after the fact, but those were actually points I thought to bring up when writing my post, but but decided against it, as it was too big a can of worms to open here. I decided to stick to the topic at hand.

For me, the bottom line is this:

If words only have the power we give them, then NONE OF US should be bothered by anything Bliss or anyone else for that matter says on this board, no matter how much it pisses you off. Because those words have no power and they don't matter. Right?

The fact that you, me or anyone else DO get so pissed of at things like that prove that words have more power then most people would even like to believe or even realize when using the.

The pen is mightier then the sword - Edward Bulwer-Lytton

I'm done here.
I'm feeling a hot mess right now..

I'm lucky for that, no doubt.

And Mayday, I think most people here are annoyed by Blisss' tendency to go on wild tangents and use multiple accounts to basically insult people in the way he claims he feels insulted (i.e making racist/discriminative comments about white people) Some took it more to heart than others.

To me, Blisss should go the way of the Freezer.

Neither I, nor anyone else said you did.

Bassdini: fair enough on the skin colour, but remember, in that same job interview they see you're name. Anyone prejudiced against non-whites probably won't hire a Friedman either.

....Or a white guy named Mohammed.

People still judge others by their skin colour. A friend of mine is from the middle east but he could pass for an Irish guy and people always get startled when he talks about his Arab identity because he doesn't look like the stereotype. That and the fact that his name is not Mohammed or Abdul means the chances of him getting stopped at an airport are a lot less.

But the thing that is pissing me off in this thread is that some white people who seem to think they have the right to use the word 'nigger' and speak for black people even though they have no idea what systematic racism is, and never experienced it (because they are white!). Those same people probably have black friends they would never say that shit to either. If someone wants to call me racist for saying white people don't go through the same systematic racism as black people, they just don't fucking get it. Read about the slavery of the black man, read about the genocide of the American aboriginals, then come back and pretend you can speak for everyone.

Big Up Godisdead, No Comply and definitely Dr.Nyarlathotep.

Blah blah white people should stop using bad words this, blah blah blah opression of black people that.

Ok.

We ALL agree racism shouldn't exist, we ALL agree Africans should've NEVER been enslaved. We ALL agree the Holocaust should've NEVER happened.

But it did.

Everyone here bitches and whines about how racists we all are for things made by our ancestors, to which we agree and are ashamed for ( I didn't do it. Do I have to AGREE with what they did to other people ? No I don't ) but even a german chancellor recently offered her deepest regrets for what happened during WWII in front of jewish officials and she was greatly cheered because of her apologies. That took a lot of guts from the jewish officials to get up, applause her and appreciate the gesture. But they did. Because they were mature enough to move on, pick up the pieces and go forward.

We ALL make stupid and evil things that CANNOT BE EXCUSED but there comes a point where we should LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKES, apologize profusely and acknowledge our awful mistakes and proceed further ahead. It will NOT erase anything we've made but we need to MOVE ON with the knowledge NOT TO MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE again.

EVERYONE did this at one point. And saying your people never did anything wrong is a blatant lie and you should get your head out of the sand a bit.

Besides, we whine about racism and such yet, we are ALL wearing clothes made by exploited asian kids and drink coffee that was produced by exploited south americans and shop in stores that exploit their employees.

Even wondered where the cotton fabric your beloved American Apparel uses for their junk comes from ?

The more we continue to talk about the gap between races, the more we promote racism.

You guys started acting like a bunch of racists because you thought it would be a good way to make me angry....

When it backfired and you all looked stupid (and racist) you actually come out and somehow try to make this MY fault

BTW its funny how you're now picking on Mayday, like she actually did something WRONG confronting you people.
