I'm worry about Starcraft. It seems, from looking at the gorgeous SC2 demo, that Starcraft 2 still uses hard counters.
If an opponent attacks you with "X" unit, then you build "A" units. That has been done to death.

Relic, who tested it out with "Dawn of War" , came up with a new way to play RTS. It was nicely implemented in
"Company of Heroes". Stuff like Covers and random roll vs armour.

Covers is when a unit hides behind something and your opponent will have chances to miss. Nothing like sending massive artillery
and then sending your troops to take cover in the craters you just created. Random roll vs armour is some hits might miss, some might do more dmg.
It's just so dynamic.

No matter how extremely polished SC 2 is.. if the gameplay is the same old formula, it won't appeal to me.
Looking forward to Relic's Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 2. That is going to be massive.

Dawn of War 2 is gonna be a completely different type of game, though. It's not gonna be making buildings and gathering resources and training units; it's gonna be closer to what WH40k is actually like. You're gonna make teams of space marines, and that's it. If they die, they're dead. At certain points in the game you'll have more teams to controll, but they're also going with an XP and item system; you can find more powerfull weapons (like blessed flamers or meltas) and you're gonna have XP also, so you can give your squads skills like infiltration, tank-hunting (does more damage against vehicles), terminator honours (more/stronger CC attacks)

Dawn of War was really just a Starcraft/Warcraft take on Warhammer. DoW2 is gonna be more accurate to the original system. (now if only they wouldn't make it fucking ultrasmurf centric, that would be great. I WANT MY FUCKING NECRONS!)

My favorite part about SC is that it was so nicely balanced in terms of micro vs macro. I hate games that are too micro-ish...it becomes too tedious to send the armies out, control them and then strat with them and at the same time look after macro. Way too complicated

SC was nice in the sense that niether micro nor macro overwhelmed the other...

you can't even read.

I didn't even discuss about Hero units, didn't even mention Warcraft: Frozen Throne. I was talking about covers and random rolls vs armour.
And i'll said it again, Relic try that with DoW a bit, and fully implemented in CoH. I don't like the paper-rock-scissors strategies anymore.

Whether Dawn of War uses Heroes units or not, it's a moot point because you don't need it to win.
Company of Heroes doesn't have Heroes unit.
