The Happening

Did anyone see this movie yet?? I had the chance to see it this evening and I was pretty impressed, It definitely did the job it set out to do, It creeped me the f**k out but seriously... when seeing a film by this man I am expecting him to know the meaning of cut and re-shoot. 5 different scenes I counted at least a minute each watching the damn boom mic float over the actors' heads like WTF! You are M. Night... I am so disappointed that this made it past the editors. In all of his other movies I have been so immersed in the plot that I feel like I am part of the movie. This one I actually had to question what the budget was as it was so poorly edited!

Others, Thoughts?? Comments??

/end rant

I dunno... ya sure the idea is out there but that's the norm for him. come on... the village... did ANYONE really suspect it was a social expriment???

I did. I called it 10 minutes into the movie without having read any spoilers. The way I figgure, no "peasant" from that period in time spoke perfectly "shakespearean" like that, where everything was so beautiful and eloquent. I called The Sixth Sense, too, but that took a bit longer. Unbreakable was good, but too predictable for someone who loves heroes and comics.. Don't even get me started on Signs, that had plot holes you could drive a semi through. Lady in the Water was just pathetic, and a perfect indicator of just how highly he thinks of himself; he casts himself as the savior of the world. Ego much?

Please tell me you are kidding. The Village was horrible in plot, direction AND script.

Sixth Sense sent Shamalamadingdong down a dangerous path, where he had to make a twist in all of his movies and none have lived up to it. THEY'RE ALL OBVIOUS!

The only one I really liked was Unbreakable (saved by two great actors); the rest is too ridiculous. It was obvious that Bruce Willis was a ghost. It was so easy to figure out that Samuel Jackson was the bad guy. In Signs... water... come on, they gave away the twist as soon as those water glasses appeared.

I'm not even going to discuss Lady in the Water (wtf was up with that?)

The fact is, quite simply, that Night is like all the other writers out there that dish out a good enough first movie/book but can't live up to the reputation they've set themselves in, afterwards. I have as much respect for him as I do for Uwe Boll.

Scratch that; Uwe Boll at least made a good move when he made Postal.

I think we're jaded movie viewers here. When you've watched many thousands movies, you tend to become really picky.

I like his movies, not love, I don't know in each movie, all the actor seems to lack emotion.

They all look hungover or something...

En français, sont genre vedge.

I actually loved the Sixth Sense, I thought it was an awesome concept and, quite honestly, didn't see it coming at all.

Unbreakable was bearable. The way in which super powers were portrayed was a bit unusual and refreshing, but it wasn't Oscar-worthy.

But that's it. The rest are obvious piles of crap. Signs is in my top 5 of the worse movies of all time. It bored me so damn much, I didn't care what the fuck was happening to them after a while, not to mention the most expensive movie set of all times : a crumbling house wooden house and a corn field. ZOMG. Wow. I'm impressed. Now THAT's entertaining. Combine that with insipid catholic bullshit ( catholics are so fond of their fear ) and you've got a fucking disaster of a movie. And don't get me started on that water thing. Like Screwhead said in another thread ( why is there 2 threads for a crappy movie ??? ), there is moisture in our air and yet, that didn't bother the aliens.

These aliens were smart enough and acquired enough knowledge to build spaceships that can travel gazillions of light years yet, aren't smart enough to have sensors capable of detecting water on a planet. Hydrogen and oxygen, 2 of the most common elements in our universe. Geez. That's a big fucking FAIL for our invaders.

No wonder these guys decided to invade the midwest. At least, they can still pretend to be smarter than most hicks down there.

i found very bad qualities and very good qualities in "the happening"...

some of the dialogues were insipides and clumsy.. and not in a way that it would serve the subjects.. like a fucking 5yo could have written that shit. some part of the screenplay are useless and painful to watch. like who cares if the girl's pregnant at the end.. it doesn't help or contributes to the comprehension or advancement of the storyline.. when i studied scenarisation one of the thing that i have learn is how each contributions to the screenplay and cinematographie must meaning something..

some of the acting was weird and i attribute that to a bad acting direction. i love to death zoey deschanel (she's a sweetheart and her mother was great in twin peaks..) but all a long the movie, i couldn't believe her. she just gave me the feeling to slap her... marky mark was ok i suppose. he's cute so it's alright. the little girl character was so insipide and forgettable. i couldn't care less about her all along the ride! john leguizamo was ok too.

on the other hand; i love the casting of the extras and few lines characters! i really thought they were interesting and real. the old lady "hermite" at the end really freak me out.

the idea/concept of this movie is totally amazing. it recalls old b movies.. it actually make me happy this kind of flick.. well it always make me laugh.. you know panoramique on the bush and the trees... oooOOOoOOo so scary ha!

i loved also the subjects of the movie exploring planet natural disaster in a post- 9/11 world..

i really appreciated the exploring of the subject "bystander effect".. wich is a subject in psychology who really is fascinating..

all in all this movie could have been a chef d'oeuvre but something is not there.. it's far from being the worse movie ever. i know a long list of movies not even worth mention it way much bad than the happening.
