i need help people, as some of u know i am a dj and i do have a set up at home, and the only time i practice or play is on the weekend and the music is at a reasonable level no bass boost or high levels. I live in an appartment of of 6, i am on the main floor.
Under me is a man in his late 70's who and fucked up, his sound system is right under my bedroom where he litterally makes my floors vibrate and i can hear clearly what he is playing. A part of me is convinced that his speakers are strapped to the ceilling. Obviously he doesn't like my style of music that i play old people never do, so when i do play music ( like i said before only on the weekend at a reasonable level.) he decides that the rest of the week would be a good opportunity to blast his until my floors vibrate, and until exactly 11pm. I forgot to mention as well that last year he decided he would poison my tomato plants and destroy them completly....And during the winter that just passed us by also decided to throw a pasty white substance at my back door and window( i think it was detergant or something.) he refuses to talk to me calling me names and telling to fuck off. And now for the past 3 weeks he plays loud obnoxous music that make my bedroom floor vibrate to the point of where i can't even hear myself think. But he only plays when he hears me come in from work. I work And have to get up at 5:30am and going to bed late kills me and i am suffering very very much for it to the point of where i am falling asleep at work and got several warnings and i am afraid i will get fired if this keeps up. I advised my landlord he doesn't seem to care! does anyone have anything they can say to help e out beucase i like where i am and the rent is cheap i really don't wnat to move. I have been there for 6 years and the old man 2.. Help

Landlords will say it's between you, the neighbor ad the cops. Unfortunately, the boys in blue are the only one who can settle disputes like that =p

Call the cops. That 11pm thing is pretty much bullshit; if at any time someone has their music unresonably loud or is making an unresonable amount of noise, it's disturbing the peace and you can call the cops for it.
If you're worried about him turning off his music when they get there and there being no proof, if you've got a video camera, do some filming while waiting for the cops to show up and make sure the time-stamp is visible when you show them the footage, so that they can see and hear that he was being a dick.

Don't wait for the summer, he just chased someone with a knife, he's pretty clearly unstable, if you don't call the cops RIGHT NOW, you're putting yourself at risk.
Who's to say he won't decide this weekend that your music is too loud and try to break into your house and stab you? If you let this one slide, he'll know he can do anything he wants and get away with it.

Ive gone through this at my last 2 apartments (we're loud.. hehehe) and the cops are the only ones to intervene. The regie is there only for landlord vs. tenant disputes, and the landlord himself is not responsible for tenant vs. tenant issues.
As for the 11pm noise thing, there are some municipalites that have by-laws about X dBs after wtv hour, i dont think montreal has any though.

The cops will be able to help you out on this one. As long as they notice the excessive noise themselves, they'll be able to help you out.
As for the landlord, he'll take you seriously once you threaten him you'll be bringing him to the Regie du Logement as you request to lower your rent since you can't peacefully enjoy your apartment. =) goodluck |
