For the wire to the case thing, it might be the ground he's refering to, which is really important if you don't want to risk your hardware spontaneously frying itself..
I'm feeling like cheezing right now..

I don't think the ground would connect to the motherboard, but I might be wrong :)
I'm feeling teh peace (^^)y right now..

it would connect the motherboard to the case, so that an excess of electricity would have somewhere to go, instead of staying in the board and concentrating inside a chip..

Errr, right. My bad. Ground WOULD be connected to the motherboard, but from the motherboard to a plastic case?
'sides, aren't most high-end devices grounded through the electrical outlet?

PS2 doesn't have a 3-prong power cable, so there's no ground.. It's also probably connected to a screw on the case.. The main thing is, there's something metalic that it's hooked up to that will draw the current away from the motherboard.

If you've got an old PS2 (not the new slim ones) just do this: [ ashholt.googlepages.com ]

then you can download and burn all you want!

Heh, indeed, PS2 DOESN'T have a 3-prong power cable!

Alright, so yeah, it obviously must be grounded somewhere, but I still think that cable he was talking about is the one connecting the power/eject buttons to the motherboard :)

But thanks for the refresher course in physics, Screwhead :)

its not actually ripped in two, its just "unplugged" from the motherboard. and its the cable that connects the power and reset buttons, so if it aint connected, well then the buttons simply dont function. its just a tight space to fit your hand in to replug it back in, and the cable is so damn flimsy...
I'm feeling your nuts right now..
