That's only to prove you really love me

"How is violence a way to get a message across ? Do I have to bash my fist into your skull for you to understand that I don't particularly like you ? There are other ways, you know.

And I'm all up for freedom of speech and expression but if you start using MY car as a canvas for YOUR desire to express yourself, I'll have to express my right to refuse your self-expression by kicking you in the fucking nuts. As you hold your family jewels while writhing on the ground, will you honestly think to yourself that, although not agreeing with me, it's my very own way of expressing my need to reiterate the fact that my personal belongings are not public property or an outlet for someone else's frustrations and needs ?"

I respect that. So I wouldn't damage your shit...it didn't even cross my mind to do so, mainly because I don't know you and that I generally don't break things. So don't take this personal cause I have a differing view than you. Violence isn't always the answer FOR SURE! But I'm saying that it's a reflection of an underlying attitude that should be reflected upon...not just thrown under the rug because you may have some fear that your beloved piece of metal with four wheels might get.....hurt. :)
I'm feeling 93-97 right now..

Dude, if I was still living in the area, I would've left the SAQ empty...

I'd be walking around holding onto walls for at least a month.

Bleh, it's not like I aced it, unfortunately. First exam ever with documentation allowed, yet filling 10-15 pages was hard, hence the 100ish people left when the exam ended.

... And at this point, I couldn't care less anyway. I just hope I don't fail any classes.

not to harp to much on this here...and this maybe really looking too deep into the riots (which I agree maybe opportunism at it's worst and nothing more).

but allot of illegal things have gone on throughout history that the majority thought was mindless and unproductive and changes came out of those actions.

look at hiphop culture from the beginning....stolen power for sound systems, stolen music (samples), graffiti on the subway systems (which was considered vandalism at the time and destruction of property) among other things. all that shit came from a very few people that were actually considered criminal and mindless. sure there were some nasty things going on at that time which hurt the cause of those that truly needed to express themselves in a good way ...but it was all a reflection and expression of what people thought of the society they lived in at the time.

now look at how we "see" hiphop

sometimes good comes from illegal activity....sometimes not.

Those photos of the people looting the foot locker looked like they were pretty big fans of this "hip hop" you speak of. Now look at how I "see" hip hop.

... You think what happened yesterday WASN'T mindless and unproductive?

Naah but seriously, I do see your point, and I'd be the first one challenging the status quo (and "legality") if I felt it was warranted. Then again, seeing as I'm not so antisocial and removed from the rest of society, I'm pretty sure others would see my actions for what they are and join in, therefore legitimizing my (our) actions.

Now challenging legality for personal gains... Doubtful, IMHO.
And don't give me that "what if someone steals a loaf of bread to feed his/her family" crap, that's a whole other subject. As is hip-hop, and what it now stands for.

Joeellle, y'a une place dans mon lit tsé. Dans une belle chambre toute noire, pas de fenêtre. T'entendras rien. :p

exactly what I'm on about. think about it...it's all legal and good when it makes a ton of coin and every sheep needs it and therefore it must be protected. I'm not saying hiphop 1978 is the same as hiphop today in anyway....but it did start out as an expression through illegal means that cultivated all sorts of great things we love today. but yeah, I couldn't agree with you more.

@ Masa "Now challenging legality for personal gains... Doubtful, IMHO" - check into Ayn Rand, she has some interesting points that would say it should ALL be for personal gains and that in turn benefits the masses.

OK - I would never torch or break or vandalize anything or hurt anyone on purpose. I hope I'm clear on that. but isn't this the second time that cop cars have been burned in a month or something...right at a cop station a couple of weeks ago? doesn't this mean anything to people? isn't there a message in those actions? I don't condone them really....but I prop up and check it out and think about it because it may mean something deeper than what the media, our family and peers lead us to believe. That's all I'm trying to say.
I'm feeling 93-97 right now..
