Since Bell decided to sabotage DSL for everyone, shopping for an ISP is difficult. I need to get a provider for my apartment but I'm not sure who to go for, which ISP's are people using and are they throttling traffic heavily? Videotron is out of the question because it is too expensive.
Not sure who to go for. | |

Avoid ACN like the plague. I'd wager that sympatico service is better and more reliable than this piece of crap provider.

ColbaNET with ADSL2... 28$ including tax a month unlimited... Downloads 24mbps, uploads at 4k/sec for some reason per connection... Weird...

Rogers is just as bad. Rogers and Comcast are two of the worst ones, actually.

I might go for colba if I can get adsl2 hooked up here, Bell I am boycotting on principal.
I'm pretty pissed off about the lack of good options these days though... I thought the prices were a ripoff before the whole throttling issue. Update » nothingnopenope wrote on Fri Apr 18, 2008 @ 2:55am Gamos: cable is great and I would use it if the prices weren't outrageous. DSL means you probably have to go through Bell's system at some point and they are fucking with everyone now including third-party companies by throttling the connections (this is probably going to turn into a huge lawsuit against them but that takes forever to resolve).

If u have no other choice than go with Bell:
You'll get 2 months for free with Bell on any Internet package... Dont get 'Max', tho (Fiber Optics) its simply not worth the price. (79.95$) Get the 'Performance' pack, you should be OK. depending on your DL use, u may want to add extra 30Gb(so 60Gb total bandwith) for an extra 10$, 25$ if u wanns get Unlimited Update » Samwise wrote on Fri Apr 18, 2008 @ 5:25am oh and if u have to deal Tech Support, dont do it over the phone... you'll be most likely to talk with some random dude in India. Go with the Tech Support Chat.

And I get half off any Rogers product since my girl works for Fido. With this being said, I'd rather be caught dead than to call any Rogers call center. Took us 2 months to get hooked up since, apparently, they are unable to comprehend how addresses work in Quebec. It's not like there's a fucking language barrier ( I speak just as good as I write so it's no excuse ), yet they managed to get confused over my address twice. It's comforting to know Rogers does its part to help the handicapped community by not frowning upon hiring severely retarded people for agents. And I'm not talking about outsourcers...

lol
gamos, its the other way around. dsl is pure shit. every provider in quebec which will give you dsl goes trough bell, and every provider that gives cable internet goes trough videotron, there are only 2 networks in quebec, bell's and videotron. and satellite internet sucks ass. distributel offers 36.95 unlimited dw&up high speed 5.0mbps. but its still bell's network...

satellite internet is not crap, it's just way too expensive for high dl and crap upload and you get cut some time due to big cloud and such...
wait it is crap! | |

Rogers would be your best bed. Cuz when it does come to montreal not as many people will have it, their for giving you better speeds.
I had the express before and i averaged 2 min per song, 9-11 min per set, 15 min for a episode of a show and about an hour for a movie. Myabe less depends on the torrent

If theres too many people around you with rogers then your speeds will be slower . I moved into a building that mostly has sympatico thats why my rogers had great speeds
