what are you recording it through?
if you are on a mac or other computer with an internal microphone. you might wanna make sure that its turned off cuz that could be why you are getting an echo. you might also wanna double check your gains and levels to make sure you are not clipping into the reds because that will give you distortion as well....

The echo might be the latency of your card, try monitoring the input of your card.
As for the bass, you generating your bass with an external source or a soft synth?

spinner, check in your audio proprieties, and make sure your "boost mic" or something like that ISNT checked in.
the mixer shouldnt change thing unless the outs are fucked, do you have 2 sets of outputs? have you tried switching from 1 to the other?

If you are recording a line level program but your card is set to mic level, there will be clipping.
