because for the same reason speeding on the highway is illegal, it's dangerous for your health, and given the amount of money the government puts into an individual's education n shite, they want to get money back from their investment, and if you brain is fuct or dead, they get $0 back.

not to mention with free healthcare they lose tons o cash on you when they gotta fix your drugged up body.

the government works in a very logical and capitalistic manner.. why would you expect them to make something so harmfull illegal?

(don't bring up Mj, cause it will eventually become legal)

the government could easily monopolise drug sales and gain HUGE profits while eliminating a source of revenue for criminals

drugs are illegal because they are perceived by the government to be harmful to individuals and society at large, with no benefits. the governmnet beleives it has the responsibility to make judgements as to what is in the best interest of public health.

err, sorry to tell you this, but the government is run by the people who the public elect. so if it's law, odds are it's the public who want it that way.

in the end anything that the public wants ends up being law. which is one of the reasons the speed limits on the highways are gonna be raised.

if there is any law that people dissagree with it will eventually be overturned.

if the police are too rough with too many people, eventually they will be fixed so they are not so rough..

it's called democracy, the one thing people don't understand about democracy however, is that nothing is instantaneous in this system, everything takes time. learn to be patient.

ian is right...
as much as people like to bash the government and stick to "the man"... it IS a democracy, the best in the world in my own opinion, and drugs are illegal because it is harmful to individuals... and like ian said, they dont want to have to spend useless money on you, if you fuck your brain, youre losing them money... the government doesnt like that...

The government could make way more money selling drugs than it would loose from providing health care to people who used drugs. Think about it...is there any reason why joints would cost more to produce than cigs if marijuana was legal? Now we pay $7 for 20 cigs and its already heavily taxed, imagine getting 20 joints for $7 and the government still makes a healthy profit.

alcohol is legal, yet if i went to work drunk i'd defenetly get my ass fired.

it's actually a policy they have, "you may not come to work under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs"
