 Coolness: 69025 | I got a call last nite about 3am , a friend of mine freaking out saying that ALL HIS GEAR got stolen 2 turntables 2 cd dj's one 2000$ mixer 1 computer 1 laptop and his cd's and records, he has saved for 2 years to buy his equipment and in a flash of an eye it is gone. I felt terrible for him as a dj myself i can only imagine how is feeling!!!
The funny thing is that he ususally gets home about 3am and he lives on the 3rd floor of a building, the window was smashed and the people had time to unplug everthing and move it out without anyone hearing them!!! weird if they were heard and people were too scared to do anything about it. I mean if heard anything going on at a neigbor's house that sounded not like it shouldn't sound i would go knock or something. I guess we expect too much of society these days.... The question i have for all of u is this my friend is devistated and i see how u guys helped Host One keep his stuff can u help me and my feind get some stuff back like cheap used equipment or do u have something at home u aren't useing and want to get rid of he isn't rich not all his stuff is gone and neither am i. I want to help becuase i am a dj and a dj with no equipment is well not very much and when u save and save to have it. It is all gone in a matter of minutes well.....So if anyone has any suggestions or can help me and my friend out a bit. let us come together for the love of music and dj's.... Please no smart ass comments this is sensitive subject....Put yourself in his shoes i am friend trying to help out as well... |

Ur timeline is about 48hrs... if u dun find the gear by then, u probably will never find it. The two most common methods of disposal are either instant or long term, instant would be when crooks pawn shit right away or private sale it, usually this would be on island. Long term, well thats anyones guess, private or not, it doesnt normally occur on island or anytime soon after the original theft. I would check local pawn shops and describe the stolen material as best as possible (ie it had stickers and paint chips etc). If ur friend had a list of serial numbers, that would be gold for both pawnshops and cops, the only real traceability on purchased goods... Otherwise, make sure he consults with his neighbours, try and gather if anyone saw or heard anything out of the norm last nite. Anyways... good luck, hope ur friend gets his stuff back... | Coolness: 69025 | this happened in the west island and it has been happening alot latey as far as i know poor guy man i wish i can help more, and he had no insurance. Insurance is expensive for dj equipment i am looking into it myself now i don't want this to happen to me...But it is expensive but it will be covered if stolen or fire |

I lost 1500 vinyles in a fire alon with an expensive mixer,turntable,3 beatboxes,tamtams 300 cd's,600 45's. Assurance la capitale are very nice,you just have to take the valeur a neuf option! ps:If you can declare your vinyl as cd's because they won't give you a dollar for your piece of wax! |

Its too late for your friend, but if you find the right plan, the insurance is not always that expensive.... My roommate and I have a plan that covers us for theft upto $20,000 for about $400/year. I split it, so Im covered for $10,000 and it only costs me about $15/month. You need to shop around though.... alot of them place limits on certain types of items, exe: on a 20,000 plan you can only claim 2,000 on electronics. As far as helping out your friend, I have an old Numark mixer he could have. I was going to try to sell it for $40, but I'd be willing to part with it considering his situation. PM me if you want. |

I lived in centre-sud, where all the fucking junkie shit-heads take liberties like smashing my window to get inside, steal electronics and take most of my music collection (including many signed copies) which they probably didnt manage to resell as much of it was obscure or unpopular stuff like noise and industrial. that was years ago.
