So,

I understand throttling and how encryption supposedly stops that, but then why am I still experiencing 30kbps on torrents>?

Im using utorrent and I enable the encryption, thinking it might help (because Im with sympatico) but it doesnt seem to make a difference from when I was using bit torrent client without encryption...

any takers?

Ufot-damn u ISP bastards~

I stopped using uTorrent when I noticed I was seeding at the same time I was downloading a file. That retardedly slowed my connection almost to a crawl. Uploading and downloading at the same time just ruins your bandwidth.

I personally use Vuze/Azureus. You download the file first THEN you seed the file after you finish downloading. This way, I get full bandwidth for download and they get full bandwidth for upload (seeding).

All I know is that it works for me.

Maybe some other geek on here may have more insight on the subject.

Since you brought up sympatico, from what I recall hearing Sympatico limits EVERYONE's bandwidth to 30k/s durring "peak hours", so it might just be that the time you're downloading happens to be then..

Doesn't encryption make things slower though ? I fail to see how it would make thing faster, seeing as how everything goes through encryption.

I'm with Rogers Internet ( why on Earth you ask ? I get half off through my girlfriend ) and it's just as shitty as Sympatico. God I fucking hate DSL. If I didn't owe Videotron so much, I'd switch back.

But otherwise, I can download a 3GB file in 12 hours or so.

Ufot, remember one thing : it depends on the seeders as well. The more seeders, the better the chance to get a seeder with a good connection. If all the torrents you get are somewhat hard to find and there's only one seeder, your bound by that seeder's upload speed...and there's nothing you can do to make this faster.

If your file has 75 seeders and no leechers and it's turtoise speed, you have a problem.

Rogers actually uses trafic-shaping, and also limits bandwidth on all encrypted transmitions, so you're pretty screwed on that..

i doubpt that sympatico limits all bandwith at peak hours... i was getting 150kb+ dl from the web...
this doesnt have anything to do with seeds... ive been downloading stuff that had over one thousand seeds and still would get retardedly slow downloads from 5 to midnight.

Now about encryption... when downloading torrent files, each packet has a header that allows bell to identify that packet as being from a torrent download... they decided they were gonna limit the speed of those cuz... well... cuz their a bunch of pussyhole fuck-wad pieces of shit. By encrypting the data, those packets become harder to identify which should create a bypass of the "slow-down torrents filter of death" but unfortunatly, the devious fucking people from bell still manage to nullify the encryption... i may have mixed up my jargon in there but i think you people still get the point

this kind of bullshit makes my job incredibly fuking hard seing how im trying to download a file that weighs 16 gigs... and i need that fucking prog to do my homework

btw, we just passed midnigt and my cs3 torrent went from 20k to 60 in half a second

When using utorrent make sure that when u start downloading u go to bandwith and make sure u tone down that unlimited upload. For sympatico well it depends really on your contract, they have been tru some changes lately, make sur yall looks at your contracts closely..seriously...So u might be paying for a line that will give u up to says 7 mb IF its free if not u get what u get, then when we took ours ,we had 7 mb stable at all time...and no shit i always download 500-600 kb sec on most good sites...torrents will fly anywere aroud 250-350 total.(being close to the central and other kinda shit can get in the way too, make sure u got those filters in the wall)And one more thing ,we foud out this month they change our contract from 60 gig to 30 gig .so i pop 19 gig over already ,and last month it cost me 25$ more for downloads. When we cald we got offered to pay 10$ for 30 gig more...wich really ...Anyways they took care of it in the end ,but we had to upgrade to an other service just to make sure we dont pop the limit anymore..
I like the service am getting from them ,there just fucking retarded sometimes when they treat there custumers like shit...
I'm feeling unstable right now..

utorrent setting have nothing to do with this. I understand the concept of bandwith and that uploading alot slows down the download... this shit is due to sympatico slowing down torrent downloads from 17h to midnight...

settings wont make a download go at 30k/s flush from 5 to midnight and then to top speed...

any test i do on the web to see my bandwith gives me decent speed (more than friggin 30k) but even if i am to download... say the latest version of linus (extremmely heavily seeded) it peaks at 30k

this aint my fault, i aint dumb... sympatico has even admitted to throttling torrent speed... i fucking hate this

does any1 think there is a way to bypass the peek hour limit? I was really under the impression that you could bypass the throttling by envcrypting your stream... i duno... I will try azereus 2nite instead of utorrent and see if it makes a difference...

The encryption WAS a way to bypass throttling. For about a week, and then a company made a program that's capable of identifying packets encrypted with the method used by uTorrent, Azerus and BitComet, and that got deployed to all the ISPs.

And the peak hour limit isn't just if you download a lot; it's for EVERYONE hooked onto the system. Short of having someone on the inside add you to a special list of some sort, you're shit out of luck.

Also, a little known fact about sympatico; regular "heavy bandwidth" users get their account flagged and permanently have their bandwidth reduced..

By not uploading when you download, that defeats the whole purpose of torrents... If everyone seeded at least 1:1 then it's fine but most people do not. The whole point is you get a piece and sent that piece to someone else.

Set your upload limit to 25k/sec then :) I have mine at 50k/sec and have no problems normally. Then again I still have the unlimited bandwith.
