Its Saturday night and there are two parties in town to choose from. At one party, they've booked a big international DJ that you want to see, but tickets are $30. The other party has a good lineup of local DJ's and tickets are only $15. All else being equal, would you rather spend more money to see a famous DJ or save your money and stick to the local DJ's?
I'm feeling knocked up right now..

On my end there would be an considerable amount of factors that come into play... most importantly.. Who's producing the events?.. what can I expect quality wise from the production company... am I encouraging someones one off quick buck or am I encouraging someone who's making a whole hearted attempt to contribute to the community perhaps over the long term. And then comes the general stuff like How often have I gone out recently?.. am I bored with the locals for the time being? Does $30 mean I can barely afford rammen for the week, whats the transportation situation, and of course.. what are my friends up to etc...

I think most *not all* headliners are overrated when stacked against our awesome locals who generally roll em up and smoke em without batting an eye, but they do make for an interesting bonus. We are spoiled to have such amazing local talent in this city, and I can honestly say, this isnt the case everywhere. We would all be "headliners" if we could just focus some positive attention on ourselves.
I'm feeling hr, br, fr, sr right now..

INternational dj only at $30 I'd think twice, and most likely go to my local jam

INternational prodicer/dj, who is playin original unreleased material, I may be inclined to drop $30
I'm feeling gettin baked right now..

Wow Dan I'm surprised! Supporting your local talent can only make shit better for artists here. Cause let's say one of them gets famous, you think they'll forget about you? Nah man, if anything if they get famous those 30$ tickets turn into guest passes for you, and they'll make sure you keep getting them for supporting through out the years.

Tiesto already has his fanbase...let's start a revolution!

Ok. Let's twist this question around and see :

What if you have to choose between
- an event with international DJs at 20$
or
- an event with local DJs at 40$ ?

I'm curious to see the answers for THAT question.
I'm feeling none of your bizness right now..

I think there is a bit of apples and bananas in this thread...

though our locals (apples) are awesome, they also grow in our back yard, banana`s however(even though some are not as good as our apples) do not grow in our back yard and are often more expensive... depends what your ears want to eat....

Not to mention that if on the same nite, I can either see a bunch of local friends play, or pay to go see someone like Derick Carter or Juan Atkins or Steve Lawler ... well, I love locals, fuck im a local myself, but Im pretty sure I know where`d I`d be going...

It depends how many raves are available with said local DJs. Say one big international DJ comes once a year or every two years but local DJs have monthly gigs... I might be more inclined to go with the international one.
I'm feeling magnetic right now..

If you like the international DJ enough to pay $30 (knowing that this will probably be your only chance to see him) then go see the international DJ.

If you don't want to spend the extra $15... The don't spend the extra $15.

It's quiet as simple as that. I would usually say that supporting your locals is important, but if I some dude from the UK came to Montreal for ONE NIGHT, and ONE NIGHT only, then I'm sorry... I'm going to that event.

"a famous DJ is one of the funniest things ive heard of on planet earth."

I agree with the notion that a DJ getting international fame is a huge joke.
Awesome talent doesn't deserve the recognition, right?
I'm feeling cool right now..

It's like anything else. Is it worth 30$ FOR YOU? I sure as hell wouldn't pay 30$ to see Derrick Carter, but I'd pay 60$ to see Daft Punk. I wouldn't pay 15$ to see locals I never heard, but I'd pay 30$ to see locals I like. Boils down to : Are you getting your money's worth?

Also as was stated... Is it just some dj spinning tracks or is it some producer djing his/her own stuff? That's quite different there.

But in the end.. if 15$ is gonna make or break your night out, stay inside...you're broke.
