Epilepsy And Raves.

Coolness: 51055	Hi! My friend has epilepsy (Grand Mal). He loves psychedelics, and would really like to go to a psytrance rave one of these day. The problem is that, as we all know, stroboscope and lightnings may be a problem for an epileptic. Does anyone know a way he could go, or know someone who goes raves and is epileptic?

Coolness: 128440	I havn't seen a stroboscope in a psy party in years... maybe contact the promoter of the event before hand to see if conditions are ideal and perhaps to confirm that members of their security staff have their st-johns ambulance cards. Coolness: 147000	:) seriously, i don't know much about epilepsy, but a friend of mine used to have epilepsy crisis but used to rave too, with stroboscopes... at least, have him stuck with somebody taking care of him all night !

Coolness: 201900	I don't have epilepsy but I have a lot of trouble with strobe lights, since I have a pretty high light sensitivity (pale retinas). I'd suggest talking to the promoter beforehand if that is possible, but some of the other lighting effects at parties could also trigger an epileptic episode, so it really depends on the person. I'm not sure what happens when an epileptic takes psychedelics....

Coolness: 145875	"I'm not sure what happens when an epileptic takes psychedelics...." i don't think they are related... it may seem counter intuitive but epilepsy happens for a very specific neuro physical reason, i don't think LSD or extacy have anything to do with it.

Coolness: 201900	I think some drugs might have a bad reaction with epilepsy medication though, if you are going to go the harm-reduction route I definitely would not recommend trying anything new without a lot of research. Anti-seizure medication is very powerful stuff.

Trust me, it wouldn't be the first time someone with an ilness went to a rave : throughout the years, I have personally seen and known many people with severe retardation go to raves and nothing serious happened aside from the occasional misfiring braincells. Meh, what are you gonna do... Happens to the best of us.

Coolness: 51055	From what I know (and I may be wrong), it's the fast change in the perception of a sense (stroboscopes, hyper-fast beats in music) that can make someone have an epileptic crysis. So I'm not sure if wearing sunglasses can be of any help. And about psychedelics, I know for sure that they are not harmful. He has taken a lot of mushrooms, tryed salvia and DMT, smokes pot regularly. It's about alcool, amphetamines and stimulants that he should stay away from. So I guess he shouldn't try Ecstacy. He'd like to try acid but he'd have to make sure it's LSD since some RCs are close to LSD but have more stimulants effects. I guess he could do Mushrooms at a rave and have a lot of fun, if there's not too much people. Wearing sunglasses, even if I'm not sure that they can help, might be a good idea. I'll make him ask his neurologist about raves... That guy told him that psychedelics had no impacts on epilepsy but that he shouldn't drink alcool... You guys are really helpful. Thanks a lot.
