Biography-wise, Ralph Steadman's biography on Hunter S. Thompson is hard not to like, being that he was probably his closest friend or at least, the one who understood him the most.
Novel-wise, again, it really depends. One of my fave fiction books is Neil Gaiman's American Gods but it may be too "mythological" for your tastes. It's... how can I explain this properly. It's a cleverly written contemporary tale of old, forgotten Gods. It's basically like this: people who believe in Gods create Gods; worshipers of Odin, for instance, came to America and brought with them, because of their faith, a version of Odin. Eventually worship fades and people stop believing in those old Gods but the Gods remain. Story starts in today's world, where Gods survive doing cheap jobs, being quasi powerless because no one believes in them. Some are pimps, butchers, prostitutes, cab drivers, etc. And the story follows a guy who gets out of jail and has nowhere to go in life, so he accepts a job from a guy who might not be entirely human :) It's a mythological suspense with today's grim reality, basically. I literally have hundreds of books at home, geek that I am. Knowing a bit more about what you're searching for might help narrow it down :D

I've been trying to find it but I think my best bet would be to just order it online. I'll also take a peek at the Hunter S. Thompson biography :) Thx for the suggestions, I get frustrated when I have nothing to read.
