Bah, I had no problem with the Shoulder Cam action from Cloverfield, at all. I think the effect is awesome, however, I can understand how you suckas get sick.

BE KIND REWIND!

Fucking awesome! I love Michel Gondry! That man is my hero. Once again he brings all his camera tricks in full force to produce (with junk, no less) what giant studios could never do with even the highest budgets, and top notch CG companies behind them.

The acting is passable, and the plot is cute, despite the fact that certain aspects of it are "lacking", and even seem rushed, and almost fairy tale like.

The high point, like in most Gondry films, are his use of camera tricks, and his style the creates a dream like situation. Although, not as profound as Eternal Sunshine, or Science of Sleep, Gondry really demonstrates what he can do, from an FX point of view, with a few pieces of junk, and household items. For instance, creating the old 1920's silent film look, by placing an old rotary fan, and a few pieces of coper wiring in front of the lens.

On the under belly of this puppy, I sensed that Gondry was ultimate criticizing the film idustry on many levels. Not just from the obvious, copy write aspect of the industry, but also from a financial and factual side. It subtly, yet bluntly showed that "a couple of guys with on old VHS camcorder could make a better movie than you." And also the final act in the film depicts a DIY documentary that is completely fictional!

It really conveys the notion that the movie industry is about the money as opposed to the pride and the joy that one can get out of making movies.

8/10

I last saw the Incredible Hulk.

The main problem I have with reviewing this movie is that I am an "incredible" fan of the three "important" guys in the movie: Edward Norton, Tim Roth and Tim Nelson Blake. Because of this, I am biased more than I should be.

Edward Norton as Bruce Banner works definitely more than Eric Bana because, damnit, Norton knows how to act. Tim Roth is, as always, awesome as the developing antagonist (one would see the US army as the starting antagonist). Tim Nelson Blake, though his camera time is small, is great. He was excellent in O Brother Where Art Thou and was the best character in Fido and I love everything he dishes out.

The movie itself is on par with the universe Marvel is building, so as to prepare us for the eventual Avengers movie. Some will say that not much happens but that's probably because, well, the Hulk is boring as a comic series. Until recently (with Planet Hulk and World War Hulk), I never really paid much attention to the guy. Sure, I knew about his major villains but that was about it. A big guy that smashes thing will not be as interesting as Iron Man.

So, I kept in mind that this movie was necessary to prepare us to the Avengers movie. Because of it, I was not disappointed. They did what they set to do, all the actors played their part well and the movie ended with my desire to see more of Marvel's upcoming titles.

Mission accomplished.
I'm feeling routinied right now..

I loved it, Edward Norton totally pulled off Bruce Banner perfectly IMO. And they set it up nicely, The Leader is next in line for villains!

I love how The Hulk looks, also. Waaaaaaaaay nicer than the neon-green crap from the 2003 version. That scene in the chair near the end was out of this world.

In fact, I'm gonna go watch it again.

Mkay, it's not the last movie I've seen but I was looking at trailers of a movie that was featured at Fantasia a few years back.

Fighter in the Wind, a korean martial arts / historical movie about the life of Choi Baedal (his Japanese name equivalent being Masutatsu Oyama), the most revered Korean person in Japan (which is a feat in itself) and the founder of Kyokushin Karate.

The story follows Choi, a young Korean thug who gets into WW2 to become a pilot, allying himself with the Japanese army. However, the Japanese hate Koreans more than thet hate Americans and Choi ends up doing shitall. Trying to flee, he is arrested until the end of the war.

Released but stuck in Japan, he joins carnies and befriends the circus ringleader, who gives him the Book of Five Rings, which Musashi wrote centuries ago. Eventually humiliated by Japanese ex-soldiers, now criminals, he flees the circus as his mentor is killed, vowing revenge.

Understanding that he cannot flee anymore and having reached an emotional rock bottom, he studies the Book of Five Rings for years, shaping himself into an incredibly pain-tolerant machine. Years later, Choi will tour Japan, besting one martial art school after an other, exactly as Musashi had done in the past.

The movie isn't 100% accurate (which movie is, anyway?) but it's beautiful, the combats are top-notch and the main actor is incredible. This is not your cheap 70s karate flick. It's a great biodrama.

Oh yeah, for those who don't know, Miyamoto Musashi (who wrote the Book of Five Rings) is a Japanese hero. A thus who eventually found the "sword nirvana", so to speak. The first to develop a fighting style with both Katana and Wakisashi, he is considered one of Japan's Sword Saints (Kensei).

There are tons of book on both men and both are great examples of thugs trying to make it for no other reason than to prove to themselves that they're not worthless.

What can I say; people tell me I have a Rocky syndrome. It might be true :P

Yeah. It's interesting the way people think of him in Japan. Depending of the region you'll visit, some people will think of him as the best swordsman to ever grace Japan while other parts, linked with the clan that raised his famous rival, Sasaki Kojiro, will think that he remained a thug and a thief all of his life.

Nonetheless, Musashi was known to be an excellent tactician. He might not have been properly educated but he led a good life and was the equal to many nobles.

Same appliess to Choi Baedal. Japanese don't usually respect Koreans but it's not uncommon to hear "except for Masutatsu Oayama" (his Japanese name, as stated above). :D
