Thousands of people die every year from alcohol related deaths, whether through impaired driving, dangerous recklessness, alcohol poisoning, choking on vomit, etc. But alcohol itself is never blamed for the deaths, you dont hear people saying 'alcohol killed this person'. Instead, most people will atribute deaths from say, impaired driving, to the behavior of the person which is perceived as stupid. This despite the fact that alcohol is responsible for imparairing judgement, thus making it more likely people will act irrationaly when intoxicated.

On the other hand, if someone dies from, say, an ecstasy related death, which is MUCH less likely than alcohol related deaths (aprox 1 in 100,000 compared to 1 in 1,000 for alcohol, according to dancesafe), there is absolutely no hesistation by the media or government to proclaim that "ecstasy killed this person", and no questioning of what the individual did to cause his/her own death.

This just goes to show how blatantly hyprocritical the mainstream opinion is regarding drugs. If people saw alcohol relatated deaths as the doing of a dangerous chemical, as they see ecstasy related deaths, we would be still be in prohibition.

i would like to know the number of people who die from smoking related illnesses from cigarettes as opposed to marijuana.
it would also be interesting to know the number of people that put up with nasty side effects to their prescription medication or even have serious immediate complications to them, and the number of people that have bad trips on illegal drugs.....and if the bad trip is a physically uncomfortable and damaging as the prescription side effects.
finally, i would like to know if anyone has ever known a violent pot smoker, because i sure have known a bunch of violent alcoholics.
so if anyone knows a site where there is information such as this to be found i'd appreciate knowing about it.

People die from double postin' :)

It's true. Alcohol causes a lot more deaths. Cigarettes, too. But the government taxes those, so it's alright. They tax us those so we can pay their sallary and their wars and maybe get a little heath care in return. If we're lucky.

jungle-elf: a good page with some drug related statistics is [ www.dancesafe.org ]

however it is important to keep in mind that these statistics are only for the chance of death, of course there are other possible negative outcomes from any particular drug
