| no offence man but using a mouse in a performance is about as gay as it gets. that is like a "host one threatening to beat you up " level of gayness. The only thing that i can think of that is more gay would be a barbra streisand themed mouse. |

| I wasn't talking about performances, I was talking from the production perspective.
And once you've got all your loops laied out, you aren't really gonna need a keyboard for your sets unless you have parts you want to play, you're only going to need knobs and buttons. |

| my bad , i thought you were talking about doing stuff live. But really my goal was just to say host one was gay. You don't have to use your keyboard on stage but it will make you look way cooler . |

In fruityloops/Logic, you left-click the piano-roll, it adds a note. You right-click a note, it erases it. You click the end of a note and drag, you change the length. You wanna split it in 2, hold a key (shift in the case of FLP), and draw a cut in the spot you want to split it.. No need to change modes/learn hotkeys/click icons every time you want to do something. And that's honestly the only thing keeping me from using Ableton fully to produce, it just feels crippled, un-intuitive and overly-complicated to do something that could be done with mouse clicks.
im like, totally in love with you right now!!!
that why i dont use this program, its so complicated to do simple things |

| Maybe I know more than you two do then, because I never have a problem erasing a note (double clicking) or making it longer (right click, select bar fraction or 'off' and the drag the note to your desired length)
and draw mode is a quick control(apple)-b, that takes one second.
However, it would be nice is you could drag a note without it quantizing no matter where you drag it, and then perhaps when you near a the fraction you're working it, it would be slightly magnetic.
Live has an erase mode?! To draw a note, you can double click as well... so you don't HAVE to be in draw mode to draw. |

BTW editing the piano roll is meant more as a tool to correct mistakes. You NEED a midi keyboard if you don't already have one.. even a small 2 octave one is better than using the mouse. The only software that works relatively efficiently without a midi keyboard is tracker stuff like buzz or renoise. |

| do you guys think that it would sounds better if, for example, i compose a track in Live and i Rewire it into Logic for the mixdown and stuff? |

| That's what I want to know, whether the engine itself is a better maybe more efficient for the Mac platform. |

| Personally I have doubts about the sound quality of audio files rendered in Live, and also I need a mastering program...
was thinking about rewiring into Nuendo and using the waves plugins i um acquired with nuendo for mastering
anybody have any opinions on this? |

hehe, seriously tempting Logic Studio is, but like, I feel like I'd need an actual education in music production to use it to it's full extent. Or at least a crazy good tutorial. |

| I've only use Logic maybe a combined total of 2 hours in my life, I've spent way more than that in Ableton (doing mixes, not producing, as I've stated before; I have no midi controller, and the piano roll fucking blows), and I dunno about sound quality statistics, but the short time I'd used Logic, I'd switch over in a heartbeat. Way more intuitive, and IMO the sound quality of the built-in stuff (forget even using VST/AU/Whatever) is far superior to anything I've heard as default plugins/synths from any other studio software.
If you just wanna do live sets with loops, Ableton is the way to go. But if you want crisp, clean production, Logic is the hands-down victor, it's not even a contest. |

Yes, there can be a debate about sound quality between these two programs (and between quite a few). However, the main problem, for me, is not so much about sound quality. It's more about getting your creative juices flowing. For that, you're better off with a software that is intuitive and that lets you actually sit down and make music, as opposed to always fight against it to do whatever you want. Whatever some people say about Live and Reason's sound quality, I still keep using both of these because they work in a way that I find intuitive and that inspires me on a creative level. |
