well, the answer from I see is either befriend some promoters, organise your own parties (probably the best approach), play enough to get noticed, and/or try to excel enough to get recognised and get a few gigs... last option is not an easy task, given that there are so many good DJ's out there...
getting gigs in montreal is a hustle, that's why everyone organises their own parties, and those promoters have every right to give their friends a gig if they're DJ's... PARTICULARLY if they're gonna bring a crowd and help to pay for the night...
that's the way it is, you have to work within those parameters... getting frustrated about it will do you no favours at all... I know a few DJs in montreal who play regularly, but only after 3 years of knocking on doors and organising their own shit too... |
