yes, it is perfectly legal. You are not required to carry ID with you in Canada in a public place, and you can give a false name and address as long as no one by that names lives at the address you give them. I have done it.

"As it is now, Canadians do not have to identify themselves to police unless they are arrested or engaged in a licensed activity such as driving."

This in response to Bill C-55 which would allow the RCMP to obtain passenger lists from airlines. Which is currently illegal.

Canada's privacy commissioner, George Radwanski, at the time speaing about bill C-17

"As I'm sure you know, in Canada we are not required to identify ourselves to the police as we go about our normal law-abiding business. Unless we are being either arrested or carrying out a licensed activity such as driving, we are not even required to carry ID, let alone to identify ourselves to the police."

Jaywalking is not a criminal offense. You are not being arrested - you are being ticketed. Since you are in a public place, you are not required to provide identification to the officer writing the ticket.

It pays to know your rights, citizens!

if u give a wrong name they arrest you for not identifying yourself, its something called obstruction of justice, then youve gotta go to court... not wise

I'm feeling bitch right now..

No, you don't get arrested for obstruction of justice, you only have to identify yourself if you are being arrested for a criminal offence, not ticketed for a civil offence....Did you read any of the links I posted? I am pretty sure the Canadian Privacy Commissioner knew his job and the law. I have also done this, I was not arrested for not identifying myself. Why spread false information?
