| It's fine, as long as you give credit where credit is due. I've got a hiphop beat with bits from Genesis - Firth of Fifth, a drum break from Black Sabbath - Behind the Wall of Sleep, and a drum fill from Humble Pie - Safe as Yesterday.
Sampling is what hiphop was built on, you just need to make sure you give your dues and credit to what you're sampling, especially if any part of it could be recognised. No one likes plagirism. If you didn't write/preform that orchestra/standup bass/guitar/rhodes, give credit to the OG. |

| wait a minute...if you twist the shit out of a sample so it is virtually unreconizable or if you take a small enough sample of something, wouldnt you just be able to get around all the bullshit? and what about posting an original track on your myspace page that has a recognizable sample in it; sketchy, or not? |

| If you twist it so that it's unrecognisable, you could get away with it. Under the old copyright laws, that was the case, you were alowed to use samples if they were processed and not recognisable. Under the new copyright laws, you're not alowed to sample without paying for it period, no matter how twisted it is. |

If he sold Mix tapes without consent, then he deserves to be shot. Fuck jail, hang the guy. I see some dj's selling there demo's at parties and in stores and they too should be shot or sued through the roof for everything they own.
Its just as bad as robiing someone's house and seliing there Tv to someone else. it should be treated the same way !! |

| It was something like that, the sample had to be unrecognisably processed. The laws changed some time last year I think. You can get nailed for anything that you didn't create from scratch if someone feels like it. |

| Selling mix tapes is fine if the artists represented get a cut, which in this case I doubt they did. Giving away mix tapes is another story. Since the guy is a millionaire and declares little income I can't say I feel bad for him though. |
