hypocrisy isn't a sin, it's how religion operates. The main seven deadly sins are: greed, glutony, lust, anger, pride, sloth and envy, along with anything that defies the 10 commandments.

I agree. I often say any drug that goes in by the nose or veins is the worst bullshit ever. Stay away from it.

I would say envy as my least favorite sin. Such a waste of time and energy.

Envy is just wanting something that you don't have that someone else does.. Doesn't mean you have to steal it from them. To the homeless person, winter coats and food and shelter are all things that they are envious of for us having, does that make it a sin?

In that example, I don't think so, since it's essential stuff. But, you know that people aren't only envious of material stuff others may possess. You can be envious of someone else's popularity, physical appearance or success.

Without envy, you would never have goals in life. You would never have anything to achieve because you would never want more than you currently have, you would be a happy little sheep in the world. That's why it's a sin. Envy makes people want what the church hordes: money, power over people, the ability to make the rules, an education.. (well, back in the days that the bible was written, anyways)

I think instead ambition brings a need for achievement. The ambition to go on top of the hierarchy, to have more power, more influence, be more "important". Ambition doesn't have to be always rewarding in a materialistic way though. I think "envy" in the sense of "jealousy", if that could help you.

Top of the hierarchy... You mean, on top of another person, right? The top position that someone is currently holding. More power, more important... More power and important than who? Why would you want more power than another person if you weren't envious of what they have.

It's not being envious of what someone else possesses. They may have power, as long as I have more power than them. *winks*

If they have more power than you, and you want more power than them, that is called being envious. If not, you wouldn't care who has what amount of power.

lol no!! You don't seem to get what I'm saying. I'm not envious they have more power than me, I'm not jealous of them. But I want this power in my hands. This is called ambition.

Taken from the Catholic Encyclopedia

Ambition

The undue craving for honour. Anciently in Rome the candidates for office were accustomed to go about (ambire) soliciting votes. This striving for popular favour was spoken of as ambitio. Honour is the manifestation of a certain reverence for a person because of the worth or assemblage of good qualities which that person is deemed to have. The excessive desire of distinction is of course a sin, not because it is wrong in itself to wish to have the respect or consideration of others, but because it is assumed that this quest is conducted without proper regard to the mandates of sound reason. This deordination in the desire of, or search for, honour may come about chiefly in three ways.

One may want this exhibition of homage for some merit which he really does not possess.

A man may permit himself to forget that the thing or things, whatever they may be, which are thought to deserve the testimony of others, are not his in fee simple, but God's, and that the credit therefore belongs primarily to God.

A person may be so absorbed in the display of esteem for, or deference towards, himself as to fail to employ the particular degree of excellence which has evoked it for the welfare of others (St. Thomas, Summa Theol., II-II, Q. cxxxi, Art. 1).

Ambition as such is not accounted a mortal sin; it may become such either because of the means it uses to compass its object, as for instance, the simoniacal endeavour to obtain an ecclesiastical dignity, or because of the harm done to another. Ambition operates as a canonical impediment in the following circumstances. Those who take their elevation to a church dignity for granted, and, before receiving the requisite formal enabling notice of it, by some overt act demean themselves as if their election were an accomplished fact, are held to be ineligible. The bestowal of the office in this case is likewise considered invalid. Those who accept an election brought about by an abuse of the secular power are also declared ineligible (Corp. Jur. Can. in VI Decret., Bk. I, tit. vi, ch. v).

In otherwords, if you have ambition for something that you do not deserve, you are sinning. Now, if you had the ambition to, say, cure cancer, that would not be a sin (unless you killed puppies or something to get at your goal).

So, what do you do, what is so special about you, that you crave more power than everyone else? Are you making the world a better place with your power? Are you saving lives? Feeding the poor? And all done unselfishly and for the simple goal that with your power you would advance the human race in a positive manner?

Hypocrisy is NOT A SIN! If you're going to use the term "sin" at least stick to it. There are 7 sins and none of them is hypocrisy.

Of course, if we were going with my beliefs, there are 9 sins.

When I was younger, I dreamed about having my star on Hollywood drive. Now, an economical empire seems like a more reasonnable goal. I won't tell more about my personal ambitions though, I'm confident and getting prepared, that's all I have to say.

Hmm, from a catholic point of view, of course. Least favorite sin... Hmm.. pride I'd say.
Some people are so proud of themselves, for no reason, that they get annoying. "duuude, you're just a human, and the world doesn't revolve around you. Now shut up."

don't be constrained by the 7 deadly sins though, punching someone in the face could be a sin. There's simply no other simple word to describe something is bad. maybe Immorality, but that's too long.
Sin = bad!
