David Cronenberg is not actually in it... but there's a character named after him (and another called 'Romero')

Change of subject... just checked out some old FSOL videos... I remember seeing a lot of footage from

[ www.youtube.com ] Cascade used in station identification clips on MusiquePlus (back when I had it... 96-98!!!), especially the yellow corridor, which I think had a drum loop from Massive Attack's Karmacoma as soundtrack!

STREET TRASH james muro usa 1987 9/10

since i'm kid this is one of my fav cult movie...
this horror comedy is really funny...filmed in bad area in brooklyn..that i don't see often since i leave here..the dialoque are savoureux..the actor very good...the effect are gory and funny!
the fiming id very fluid and well made i was not surprised to discover that muro is an expert of the steady cam...it is his the only movie that he directed...

SYNOPSIS :When a liquor store owner finds a case of "Viper" in his cellar, he decides to sell it to the local hobos at one dollar a bottle, unaware of its true properties. The drinks causes its consumers to melt, very messily. Two homeless lads find themselves up against the effects of the toxic brew, as well as going head to head with "Bronson" a Vietnam vet with sociopathic tendencies, and the owner of the junkyard they live in.

FUN STUFF ABOUT THE MOVIE:

-The producers were unsuccessful in getting product sponsorship for the film. The only company that was interested were the makers of Drakes Cakes, which would send the cast and crew a box of snacks every week. By the end of the three-month shoot, everyone had eaten enough of the snacks that when it came time to make the scene where the fat bum explodes, the fake stomach was filled with boxes and boxes of Drakes Cakes.

-Bryan Singer(SUPERMAN RETURN,X-MEN) was a grip on this film, according to his commentary on the X2 (2003) DVD.

SOME OF MOVIES MURO MADE THE CREW :

-Miami Vice (2006) (director of photography: second unit)

-X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) (additional director of photography)

-Crash (2004/I) (steadicam operator)

-The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) (camera operator)

-X2 (2003) (steadicam operator)

-Rush Hour 2 (2001) (camera operator)

-The Fast and the Furious (2001) (camera operator) (steadicam operator)

-Swordfish (2001) (camera operator)

-Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000) (camera operator)

-Any Given Sunday (1999) (camera operator: "b" camera) (steadicam operator)

-Titanic (1997) (camera operator) (steadicam operator)

-L.A. Confidential (1997) (steadicam operator)

-Casino (1995) (steadicam operator) operator)

-Strange Days (1995) (camera operator) (steadicam operator)

-Clueless (1995) (steadicam operator) True Lies (1994) (camera operator: "b" camera) (steadicam operator)

and so many more...

I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE by MEIR ZARCHI usa 1978
10/10

this movie can also be find under these title :

- I HATE YOUR GUTS
-DAY OF THE WOMEN
-THE RAPE AND REVENGE OF JENNIFER HILL

this movie is on my top 5 cult movie since years...i like to watch it once a while...the ultimate female revenge movie. the feminisme in you gonna appreciated for sure..i like evrything about this movie.the screenplay is well construct.the realistic aproach on each scene(even the rape one)
---->there is no "computer penis" added like in irreversible..the light is also very natural.the filming is excellent and the photographie is superbe.
the construction of some shot seem to be very "thinking since a long time"...
the subject and the realisme of some scene are shocking and even the fan of gore have difficulty to stand this movie.not because of the blood but just the terrible meanning of some [ scene..ca ] keaton who play the main character, jenifer hill,is so intense and well play that you really believe that she's hurted.i would like to see a making of this movie because i have so many questions about how they were able to make all these horrible scene..
try to find the remastered version of 91' , the image is really better!

SYNOPSIS:The film follows Jennifer, a writer who is working on a new novel and needs to get out of the city to finish it. She hires a riverside apartment in upstate New York to finish her novel, attracting the attention of a number of rowdy male locals. They catch Jenifer one day and strip her naked for the village idiot (Matthew) and rape her. Jennifer is later attacked and raped a further two times by the four degenerates, and her novel is also destroyed. But Jennifer slowly recovers and in her now-twisted, psychotic mind, she then begins to seek revenge on the four men who raped her.

FUNNY STUFF ABOUT THIS MOVIE:

-The scar displayed on the left side of Jennifer (Camille Keaton)'s face in the post-trauma scenes is real, the result of an automobile accident in the actress's youth. In these scenes, it was exaggerated by the make-up artist, and in the opening and closing scenes, it was hidden under a thin layer of foundation.

-The film has no music score. Director Meir Zarchi intended to add some library music to his film, but found none that was suitable, so the only music we hear in the film comes from the church organ, a snatch of Puccini on record, background music in the store and a few stray riffs from Johnny's harmonica.

-Often named by film critic Roger Ebert as the worst movie ever made.

i lose interest way too fast and im not ambitious enough

so i just help other people out with their visions
even if anything i participated in wasnt mines

i can put my ego aside and still feel fullfilled being part of process of completing of a vision

so if the concept is good and the person is sincere about their work
it inspires me as well and motivates me to help make it possible

i've mostly worked with a guy named Eddie Menz who's the projectionist at Ex-Centris
doing whatever the filmaker shoudn't be focusing on or just to be an extra hand

one of our short film "mechanism/organism" is being shown at various film festivals around the states right now
and Eddie won a few grants last summer for some of other shorts

Sorry Gen for not posting up more stuff like i'd promised, hehe... although, a new video and its director have come to my attention, so here it is!:

Mates of State: [ www.youtube.com ] In The 80's

Arno Salters is a music video director who’s earning raves for his playful fusion of live action and stop-motion animation film techniques. Made on a Mac with Final Cut Pro, Salters’s videos are jaunty fantasies with a touch of vaudeville and a handcrafted style whose slight irregularities bring them to unusually vivid life.

“What I’m trying to get out of is that glossy, sterile, corporate look the music video industry has sunk to, where everything looks and sounds the same,” explains Salters. “People consider the industry to be in crisis right now, so most labels are afraid to be different — everything they make is a replica of everything else out there.”

Salters’s work stands out because he applies his Mac-based toolset to achieve a non-CG look. It’s especially apparent in his latest music video — for the song “Fraud in the ’80s,” from the album “Bring It Back” by the husband-and-wife duo Mates of State.

“One thing I went for aesthetically in the ‘Fraud in the ’80s’ video is the in-camera effect,” he says. “Everything I do is right in front of the camera, as opposed to using CG effects. To me, that gives it a certain look. It’s the human-error factor: it has charm. And it’s the imperfectness of that that I like.”

The 27-year-old French-born director, who splits his time between San Francisco and Paris, is proud of how his ultra-low-budget, indie-produced work turned out. “It’s gotten as much airplay as any indie video,” he says.

(Even though this is an article pushing Mac software, it's still interesting to learn about Arno Salters techniques.)

In my opinion, his style reminds me quite a bit of Gondry; you know, with the costumes, the choice of colours, the sets and especially the in-camera effects.

Fabulous, Flamboyant and Fat Headed!

Here, in our fair forum, we post the names and works of Famous Video/Movie Directors, Not-So Famous Video/Movie Directors, Famous Alternative Video/Movie Directos, Not-So Famous Alternative Video/Movie Directors, but one combination we do not post is... the Famous Not-So Alternative Video/Film Directors. Yes, this is the one and only outlet we have yet to source, or explore, here in our fair forum -or perhaps we have, and i'm too caught up in my own review to notice! If so, c'est la vie et que será, será. The one direction we have seemingly refused to go towards, is the commercialized auteurs who are making a extravagant amounts of gold, myrrh and frankincense... and for good reasons, i'm sure. And when I say that, I mean: raking in all the doe, of course.

With all pompous-arrogance aside, I would like to present a man who needs no introduction (even though I have written one anyway). A man, whose likes can be compared to Andy Warhol... well not really -but really, any man who enjoys the bright effervescence of neon, flashy jewlery or parading practically-naked women around like it ain't no thang. A man, who has made stars shine brighter (using neon)! A man, who defined Bling-Bling in his videos; a man who made sexy look even sexier... in his videos; a man who made black rhyme sayers into God-damned Gods, who shake their diamond studed wrist watches like they actually owned them... in his videos! Yes, Hoes and Hustlers, I would like to present the inter-continental-champion-guy-who-made-the-videos-you-may-have-seen-on-Much Music, MTV-1-2 and 3... Mr. Harold Williams.

Anti-climactic? If no, then I suck at writing. If yes, then you may ask "who-and-the-what the fuck is the mother fucker talking about?" Better know as "Hype" Williams, through out the 90's, has pushed the limits in producing Hip-Hop and RnBs videos. If you disagree, I can understand, some of his videos are extemely minimal and , sometimes, quite plain. If you agree, then you know when I say "extemely-hyped-up-neon-lit-horn-blastin'-booty-shaking-bi-atches" I mean Hype Williams. On the other hand, many may consider him to be the epitomy of comericial when it comes to his music videos. A stigma, really, that has associated Money, Success, Fame and Glamour at the beggining of every one of his videos, as soon as his trademark "HYPE WILLIAMS PRESENTS" fades on to your screen. With music videos for R. Kelly, Missy Elliot, Ja Rule or even TLC, who wouldn't lable this man as comercial? Someone who hasn't seen his videos, that's who!

However, I would like to admit, the reason i'm writing all this shi-ot, is because I respect him. That's right, hoe. I respect him. Go ahead, throw the non-conformists book at me all you want; but when I was growing up, watching Rap City and this guys videos would come on, I was a happy camper. I looked up to him. I really did! Hype Williams has managed to produce well over 60 music videos, for some of Hip-Hop and RnB's biggest names. Do you like: NAS, Mobb Deep, Wyclef Jean or even Ol' Dirty Bastard? If so, then you must (or at least should) tip your hat to this man. Being the director of the highly-stylized film Belly (1998 ), as well as being the most wanted urban music video producer of the 90's -and the highest paid, to boot; Harold Williams is not a name to banter about in a flippant or calous manner.

STYLE
Hype Williams' videos of the late-1990s and early 2000s were typified by a grand scale. The director often used fisheye lenses, large sets, heavily saturated (and/or neon) colors and expensive wardrobe, costumes, and special effects to give his clients a larger-than-life look. This style is particularly prominent in his work with Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott, two of his most frequent clients from 1997 to 2001. Many of Williams' videos also make extensive use of the talents of several female models, which has led to accusations of exploitation by several critics.
For most of his more recent videos, Williams creates a letterbox effect by having a main image in the middle (where a film would be in letterbox format) and having a second image behind it, split by the first image. As he had done in the past, Williams continues to front each video he directs with a title sequence, which presents his name, the name of the music artist(s), and the name of the song in a stylized format matching the video clip to follow.

wow this is very cool...ex-centris is a interesting place..i like the fact that they make image research.
i made a lot of helper job in set for publicity and tv show...it's there that i realy realised that cinema is such hierarchise...make me piss because i always think that the guy who do the light is important as the director...cinema is a team work..you can be the best creator in the world but if you are alone it's worth nothing!...and me too i'm not at all ambitious..if i do what i do it's because it's my passion and someone ask me to do it! i'm a dreamer and people like me need to be waking-up sometime!
