Good luck Sammy..

Its fucken hard.. i have three seperate accounts in my bank.. 1 checking and 2 saving accounts.. but with on-line banking, even when i divide my cash when i get paid, i always end up picking from the savings account.. then again, im horrible with money... when i have alot, i spend on junk.. when im broke, i use my Visa.. lol...

Its going to be hard for you sammy, since your only saving for a couple on months.. or i would say try RRSP's or something that freezes your money for X amount of years at a fixed interest rate..

you can always try what you have already mentioned.. bring a lunch, do spend for nothing.. :)

good luck !!

i alos know poeple that take 50, or 100 bucks off each pay check and put it into a seperate account.. even if theyre not saving to go anywhere, so that when they do want to go soewher or want soemthing, or need the money, theyll have it

Pay everything in advance to try and free up your last couple pay checks before you head out. This worked mad for me. Had my rent paid off like 3 months in advance, so that when I decided to leave, it was on a pay day, so 1 full check, plus the knowledge that you will have another check put into your account after you have been travelling for a couple weeks and are almost dead broke.

Easiest way to save is to not have money, so by taking your money and paying (in advance) actual bills with it, you are left with nothing to spend anyway, but it has already been spent on useful shit.

you'll notice that you'll save a lot once you stop buying lunches every day, tea/coffee, etc ... its only a few $ here and there but it adds up.

I would suggest the seperate savings account .. i dont know what bank you belong to .. but at BMO you can open a savings account with 2% interest that's locked until you go to your specific bank... you can't access it if you're out just using your debit card .. when its not easily accessible its easier to just forget about it

also take however much out that you're willing to spend each week CASH .. you're less likely to spend as much when you see how much you're actually handing over .. its much easier to spend more when you're just swipping a card..

anyways goodluck and enjoy your trip :)

the thing is the savings account thing doesnt make a difference if at the end of the month you dont really have alot to put aside

although im living pretty frugal already
pretty sure there's alot of expenses i can cut down on
so the input on stuff like tea and coffee was the kind of advice i was looking for
also the finding gems at the salvation army to sell online is pretty good

thanks for the good advices anyways

saving up money - advice needed

I use to complete a few unfinished jobs, arts and others, and sell them. I've started to do this when I was 5 I guess. selling 25cent a draw to my mom. Now I sell 800$ a stained glass door to my friend's mom. Things haven't change, they have evolved.

ps: fuck tim hortons
