| Regardless what Nintendo Revolution controller looks like and its 3d motion functionality, there will be hardware developers who'll make a controller like the "standard model" that every hardcore gamer is used too. I have a feeling most of you just judge the book by its cover and didn't even read the article.
3rd parties will make the standard controller and the usual products like the light gun. This tv remote type controller just gives the software developer a new gaming paradigm to work with. To have their imagination run wild, and not constrain to a established medium.
For example , remember the game "Punch Out"? a cartoony but fun boxing game with cool characters. Ok, lets say they make a remake. The gameplay could be like this.
When you throw a left (A) or right (B) punch, you actually have to do it in real life (holding the controller). If you do a fast motion, it will be a jab. If you do it hard it will be a strong punch. And you can do whatever boxing motion the game has like a uppercut, a hook, a cross, etc.. To shield/block, the player would just move the controller near you. To me that is more interesting than pressing left+A on a pad.
The point is, casual gamers can pick it up easily and not learn the 3 000 combo moves and options to enjoy a game.
Nintendo can make a 3 headed pink dildo controller, and Miyamoto will come out with a Mario game for it that no acid trip will ever surpass. |

| Demo 8: First Person Shooting
So, we lied -- not all of the demonstrations were completely crude graphics. For the final demo, the one that most represented how a game might feel with the Revolution controller, Nintendo displayed what was apparently a test by the team at Retro Studios for what they could do with Metroid Prime 3. They stressed it was just a test, quickly thrown together in just a few weeks. For this, the analog control stick peripheral was used. We held it in our left hand to control the forwards, backwards, and side-strafing motions, as well as having access to triggers in back for scanning; meanwhile, the right hand used the main Revolution remote control to behave just like a mouse on a personal computer. It was a very natural application and felt pretty smooth, but since it wasn't a polished game it did feel a bit awkward at times, making us wonder what kind of things a developer could do to calibrate these kinds of controls for users. Nonetheless, the potential is absolutely huge for the FPS genre. If Nintendo can execute on that potential, Revolution could easily become the ultimate platform for shooters. |

| Wow. That looks fucking great. |

| Now THAT makes more sense. I'm assuming some games will play like they were demonstrating before, while others will be regular GC style, and I guess some games will have to use both. |

| i dunno why, but all nintendo products look so damned "ages: 7-14"... |

| thats been their target demograph since n64, seems to be workin for them, they're reported to have 10 billion liquid in the bank. |
|
Coolness: 340355
| well why not have two product lines then? one for that demographic and one for the older more violent demographic.. ? |
|
Coolness: 155365
| because theyre already filthy rich, and they don't care. |

| last consoles (GC, PS2, XBOX) #:
GC: 55 million profit
PS2: 94 million deficit
XBOX: 176 million deficit
lets figure out who understand consoles and who does not.
also, dont tell me ps2 and xbox wanted to remake their money on the games. Sony made 100m in games and so did microsoft. Their 3rd party did rack up money tho.
I think nintendo just took a big bite at both sony and microsoft. 200 million gamers. 2 billion tv viewers who know how to work a remote. Why woulc you try and and work on the 200 million against competitors? |

| Nintendo never lost sight of the point of a console. The way I see it, it shoudln't have the same set-backs as a computer (loading speed, lagging) and it is cheap because the hardware should be cheap. The idea is to make less do more. i.e: getting 10megs of ram to do the same job as a 1 gig. Nintendo is workign along those lines of innovation, trying to improve low-cost technology. The way I see it when Microsoft decided to make mini-computers into consoles they started an ass-backwards revolution. Their technology has not been perfected enough to support what it does the way a nintendo system does, and so you find that it runs less efficiently but the graphics are fancier. It's all abotu what you prefer, I like that Nintendo is going at a natural pace and not sacrificing efficiency. I'm not sure what microsoft plans to do if they ever win their monopoly like they plan. They will still be using high-cost hardware, and they won't knwo how to get the right results with low cost hardware. They must have a plan I just don't see it yet unless it's making an xbox cost equal or greater then a computer. Anyways my point in htis post was that I don't think Nintendo is actually behind on technology, I think they are just doing it their way for their reasons, and it is a different kind fo innovation, a different technology that they're are using. Not low-quality, low-cost and excellent performance with some graphics depth sacrificed. People have to look past the specs and understand that console specs are not the same as computer specs. If you compare the specs an x-box to a ps2 to a GC and then actually try them out you'll get it, it's really impressive how far they make a little go. In America though, bigger is better. |
