| Yesterday I signed a lease for a place... I had the lease on me and today the landlord asks to see me and the lease cause he might wanna fix something up... When I goto his place he asks for the lease to we can make a new one and when I give it to him he rips it up...
I already had the lease signed and everything was good. Now I have no lease at all because he destroyed it but it was done in a very deceptive way. Do you know if there is any action I can take or because I don't have another copy of the lease it becomes void and there is nothing I can do about it? |

| yup and usually there is supposed to be two lease, one for you and one for him, both signed....so if something needs to be "fix", you tell him to make a new copy...with the date and your signature, the more recent one would have been valid and void the first one..but well..
if you are looking for a loft, there are some new one on st-germain and rouen in Hochelaga that looks very nice |

| you can contact the regie du logement or whatever it's called. But at this point (having heard the story from Ian) it's your word against his. Neither of you has a copy, and unless there were any other witnesses, looks like he fucked you big time. |

| well jesse was there when it was signed, so it'd be 3 vs. 2.. but even then.. |

| 2 witnesses makes a legally binding contract
a verbal contract is still a contract |

| yeah thats fucked, let me know what happens with that place! |

| You're screwed. You can call the regie til the cows come home, but you're still screwed. Kinda like how a landlord will never go after you (legally) if you break a lease cause it'll cost him more to hire and lawyer and shit than it will for him to give up and rent the place to someone else. |

| well technically he destroyed a legal document without our permission, and we do have a witness who saw it get signed..
we don't necessarily need a lawer to get him in trouble for this. |

I really don't think there is much wrong with this site, unless the guy is some kind of religious nut or something.. Seriously, there are MUCH worse places than [ rave.ca ] |

| Unfortunately, the dude fucked you proper. Even if you go to the Regie and can win the case, it'll take several months. And on top of that, if you win, you'd be living in a building where the owner obviously doesn't want you there. He'd make your life a living hell. |

| well i was told if we take him to court he can't rent the place all the while. sounds good to me. no? |
