I think I will start a new thread about this...

Lets face it folks, cops don't kill raves, ravers kill raves. And the ravers have been deterioting rapidly, which is why cops stop raves. There wont be any sort of social acceptance of raves untill ravers clean up their act and stop acting like complete and utter morons.

Promoters fight with other promoters, ravers fight with other ravers, it's all about individualism right?

I say to you, thank you for killing what was once a really fun, really enjoyable scene. And trust me, there are a lot of people on this board who have contributed to this decline.

The problem is individualism. It's been the problem of the world since the 60ies spawned the me generation. Everyone lost sense of a community and only cared about themselves. This trend has to be reversed and I say to everyone to look at Toronto.

The people in Toronto banded together when raves were made illegal. Toronto's municiple government claims it was reversed because raves became "too underground" and posed more risks and whatnot, which could be part of the reason for Toronto's reversal, but it was the people who dissented, who staged protests, who stood up and said "RAVES AREN'T AS BAD AS YOU THINK THEY ARE". Infact, they even went as far as holding a charity event infront of City Hall, a drug free event (since drugs are the primary reason governments want to abolish raves), which raised money for the movement. Some government officials started siding with the rave community and started joining their side. Even a few lawyers got in the act, parents, teachers, some of the hardest conservative minds were changed. The law was reversed after a year or a year and a half of existence.

This only worked because people there understood the meaning of a community, and understood that they are part of a greater power. But very few people have that sense here. Instead everyone just complains about themselves, fight amongst themselves, ect...

So there are two things you people can do

#1) Get together, plan things out, create a game plan, use your brains, and start to stand up for your community. Yes, it will envolve a lot of work from all parties involved, but laziness never got anyone anywhere. Create propaganda, create a defense strategy, expose the law, bring it all to the media, the lawyers, the teachers, the parents, the conservative folk, ect. You'd have to keep it up, and it might take a year or longer before people's minds start to change, but if you care about the rave scene like all of you claim you do, then it'll be worth the effort and the outcome will have great benefits!

#2) Bitch, whine, complain, do nothing and just let it die.

If you chose #2, please refrain from considering yourself part of a scene because you are the exact opposite. You watch it from the outside, and have no feelings for it.

i totally understand the message of what your saying, its just i'm not sure what the actual goal we are trying to achieve here is: do we want a law defining what is a legal or illegal rave? i personally do not. and when you say "ravers kill raves" what specifically are you referring to?

I think I made that perfectly clear in paragraphs 3 through 5.

But your idea of whats legal and whats illegal is infact a good idea and the only idea that will work.

But it can't be just up to the city to decide whats illegal and whats legal, there needs to be consultation amongst chosen representatives of the rave scene, law enforcement officials, municiple officials, and anyone else who is involved, so we can devise up a plan to make a stable and long lasting scene.

To Voidnull...

Unbeknownst to many people on this board, though known to some, there is actually a rave promotor association that was formed a year ago, here in Montreal. The association was formed and founded by local underground promotors and has been having regular meetings with city officials about many current issues in and arround the scene.

Countless hours of effort and collaboration have gone into the deliberation & discussion of our scene, and I for one have full confidence in the associations abilities to speak on behalf of the scene here.

The changes that need to be made, can and will, but they won't happen right away, it takes time. There are so many changes happenning in our fair city at the same time too. The one island-one city crap has taken a big toll on general cities services and brought about many policy changes. I'll try to get the president of the rave promotor association to post a little something for you guys to read since your interested...

ya, i was one of the founding members of that association. i was the one who wanted to stage a friendly demo patterned after I-Dance (the toronto event voidnull refers to), but the rest of the association just drug their feet, and i got sick of it.

anyways, there will be a rave law very soon.
