I didn't understand at first, I guess I still don't... money must be good though, and interesting "beats" choice by BMW, not one that I would have ever guessed...

theres even worse, lord of the rings 2 stole the music from the soundtrack of requiem for a dream. Its ok to use a track that has been used in another movie, but it is VERY LAME to use a track that was made specifically for another movie

Yeah! What the fuck is up with that?

I saw the preview for Lord of the Rings and everyone was like "YO!! Thats the Theme from Requiem for a Dream" I thought "No way. Cant be. They wouldnt use the EXACT same song by Kronos quartet. Maybe they got them to do a similar-sounding song".

Low and behold, it is the exact same song. That's not kosher.

ok
it's not THE EXACT SAME SONG. It's the same melody, but not the same arrangement. And if anyone hasn't noticed, there are like, one melody for every 10 movies!

and played with a full fledged orchestra, unlike the Requiem version which had a small quartet and some synth work.

Review.

"That was odd... but not as odd as this: why is the music for the last half borrowed from Requiem for a Dream (specifically, the Kronos Quartet's haunting dirge towards the end)? At this point, two months before release, I suspect that the actual film's score should be pretty much firmed up, or at least, major portions are long since complete... why not use the actual music? Using another movie's music is common for long-lead trailers, which are often released months before the score is recorded, but for a film this late in the game, it doesn't seem normal. There's also the problem, I think, that people are going to notice that this cool music is not in the final film... and could actually be disappointed. Well, I guess my advice (if you're over 17) is to rent the RfaD DVD, or buy the soundtrack CD (which rocks). "

News for Sep. 30, 2002
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trailer Score Details!
9/30/02, 8:02 am EST - leo

Robert from the Italian LOTR-site Caltanet.it emailed us with the information that the second part of the music used in the new trailer is the main theme of Requiem for a Dream soundtrack, composed by Clint Mansell and the Kronos Quartet. So it's not from Howard Shore's new soundtrack for TTT, just so you know...

but thats not the point. Like I said, it is the same melody note for note (From what I've heard on TV), but it is not the same arrangement. LOTR is using a full fledged orchestra to perform the piece, which gives it an almost distinct feel, compared to the small quartet used for RfaD, which gave it another distinct feel.

But mind you, I don't agree with the usuage of the melody, it doesn't seem fitting!

I remember in alt.music.warp-records, there was a huge frenzy over this BMW thing a while ago. People were saying BOC sold out

I just think BMW has good taste in music

Really i'm surprised any of you care...you really shouldn't, the film business is a low shallow money machine, it's not very surprising to see RFaD music ripped, look how damn popular that movie was...i'm just glad people are over that film...but for the matter of BoC who cares if they "Sold out"??? You like their music??? well your not the only ones...enjoy them, and if you can't because they made money by selling some of their mucsic then you obviously didn't like them that much, i for one encourage them...they're putting out quality music, which doesn't get widely recognized by large audiences...this way they can have their music heard and hopefully enjoyed and suppoerted by a larger audience...let's all admit, they're last album rocked, and they haven't gone out at all.

I don't care, honestly I would do the same thing. Hell I wouldn't mind making music for commercials as a career and make good money, and still be able to work on my own original side projects.
