Apple To Go Intel

| They will ship Tiger 4.1 beta soon for x86, for all of you x86 users!
But apps won't work for now, since no apps were compiled for x86, only OS X apps.
For this move, I can understand it, but I don't like it.
This will be a direct competition with Microsoft now, but dropping the G5 for a normal silly x86 cpu is not good.
Intel has no good 64 bits chips, Itanium = gros caca, EMT64 = licensed from AMD (AMD64). |

| uhm, all the apps work already, they made a binary translator called "Rosetta", all existing PPC apps will work right away on Intel, just in a lightweight emulation.
and no, tiger wont work on everyone's x86 (at least not yet) since tiger will only run on mac's with intel.. |

Coolness: 340385
| also, i was reading that apple wont be trying to stop people from installing windows on their computers.
picture it, being able to buy a powerbook, then installing both winxp and osx on it.......

| Oh yeah.
"Mac OS X is cross-platform by design," Jobs said. To prove his point, he demonstrated that the Macintosh computer running his on-stage demo contained an Intel Pentium 4.36 GHz processor.
I want every single Mac user that's ever said that Macs are WAY better than PCs to suck on my asshole, right fucking now. It's about fucking time someone takes their little superiority complex and blows it to fucking hell and back. |
|
Coolness: 340385
| hahaha, OSX is superior (in many fields, server still needs work)..
i'm not gonna start a flamewar though, so whatever. |
|
Coolness: 686310
| Yeah, that's the operating system. Every mac user tends to not rant about their OS, so much as their hardware and how "fast" it all is because their OS is all coded around specific hardware and never crashes because their "hardware" is capable of superior processing power.
Which, as we've all just had shown to us by Apple themselves, is a whole crock of shit. |
|
Coolness: 340385
| heh, how is that proof that's a crock of shit?
a G5 is plenty fast.. but since computers don't sit still why should they continue to use the same stuff?
them changing CPU architecture in a year somehow means that all their past CPUs weren't faster......? :| |
|
Coolness: 686310
| ...dude did you even read why they were changing over? They've admited that the PPC chip can't keep up to the power of modern PCs. All that bullshit that G5s are better than everything else just got flushed down the toilet by Apple themselves. |
|
Coolness: 340385
| uhh. no they said the future of PPC isn't going to keep up. current CPUs are on par (with exception to dual core). |

Coolness: 340385
| wow. that had a point. :| |

congratufuckinglations, you mongols
mouahaha. oman. im so bored |

Coolness: 340385
| hah, i just read that the developper release of 10.4 for intel can be easily installed on any generic x86 system. :o |
|
Coolness: 201945
| I think the main issue right now is the fact they can't design a g5 based powerbook due to the chips heat/power consumption. |

Coolness: 194745
| this ctr-alrt-del shit is great, cant believe i didnt know about it before |

| Speed of Apple Intel dev systems impress developers
"It's fast," said one developer source of Mac OS X running on Intel's Pentium processors. "Faster than [Mac OS X] on my Dual 2GHz Power Mac G5." In addition to booting Windows XP at blazing speeds, the included version of Mac OS X for Intel takes "as little as 10 seconds" to boot to the Desktop from when the Apple logo first displays on screen. |
|
Coolness: 340385
| see here's the thing tho, it's just a P4 3.6Ghz, unless apple knows how to make amazing motherboards.. there's no real reason why they should be any faster than the PC equivalent.. IT'S ALL THE SAME HARDWARE NOW :p |
