you're calculation makes sense only because you got the right results. but you added 1$ each to 8,333 to calculate what they paid, which is absolutely incorrect, since they each receive a dollar BACK, they didnt pay that dollar. you would have to take 2$/3 and then take that result and add it to 8.333_. which in fact, also comes out to 9$
in conclusion: you ar confusedx! |

Well technically they did "pay" only $25 for the room, what with that $5 that was suposed to go to them. It's more a question of what perspective your looking at the "problem" from.
If your the hotel manager, they payed $25 total for the room because you gave them back $5 from their original 30 (of which $2 got intercepted on the way back to them by a crooked bellhop) If you look at it from the perspective of the guys in the hotel room, they payed $10 each, and each got $1 back (not knowing about the $2 that was stolen) so in their eyes, they payed $9 each. The only "missing" money is the $2 that the bellhop took, but the numbers still all add up. |

They paid 9.33$ each. Not 9$. Had they each paid 9$, 1$ would have disappeared. 9*3=27$ + 2$ for the bellhop = 29$ That extra dollar didnt disappear. They each paid 9.33$. I hate you all. |

Ok, they EACH GOT BACK $1
there are *3* of them. 3*$1 = 3 + the stolen $2 = $5 If the 3 of them ORIGINALY PAYED 30$ TOTAL 30/3 = $10 payed by EACH Each one of them got back $1 Had they come into the hotel with ONLY a $10 each, then they would now ONLY have $1. The bellhop pockets $2 which doesn't factor at ALL into the fact that the 3 guys EACH PAYED $10 and then they EACH GOT BACK $1. |
